Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX2911 is a towing baseplate manufactured by Blue Ox designed specifically for the 2008 Lexus IS250. It is a permanent installation that allows the vehicle to be towed behind a motorhome or RV using a tow bar system. The baseplate attaches to the vehicle's frame and provides connection points for the tow bar.
Yes, the BX2911 baseplate is designed specifically for the 2008 Lexus IS250. However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances. These may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates.
No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX2911, the RangeFinderII tow bar cannot be used with this baseplate.
Only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters are compatible with the BX2911 baseplate. All other adapters cannot be used with this baseplate.
The following tools are required: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, diagonal cutters, Phillips screwdriver, hammer, drill, reciprocating saw, Loctite RED, 13/32" drill bit, 10MM socket, 17MM socket, 9/16" socket, and 9/16" wrench.
The kit includes: 12 nut plates (1/4" x 1" x 1" with 14" wire), 1 baseplate, 2 attachment tab assemblies, 1 breakaway bracket, 1 hex head bolt (1/4"-20 x 3/4"), 2 round slotted head screws (#10-32 1/2"), 12 hex head bolts (3/8"-16 x 1-1/4"), 1 self-drilling screw (#10-16 x 1"), 1 hex head bolt (6MM-1.0 x 30MM), 2 self-drilling screws (#12-14 x 1"), 2 hex nuts (#10-32), 1 hex nylon nut (1/4"-20), 1 flat washer (1/4"), 12 lock washers (3/8"), 2 lock washers (#10), 1 electrical bracket, 2 class III safety cables, 2 quicklinks (3/8"), and 2 black cap plug receivers.
Yes. Loctite RED must be used on all bolts before tightening. This is emphasized in the installation instructions and is critical for proper fastener security.
Blue Ox recommends that towing products be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. If needed, Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Technical Service Department at (402) 385-3051.
The following components must be removed and reinstalled during installation: plastic engine cover, push pins from the top of the fascia, Phillips screws and pushpins inside the headlights, vehicle support bolt above the emblem, eight bolts from the underside of the fascia (bumper), nine bolts from the splash guard, wheel well cover screws, two screws forward of the front tire, fascia, fog lights and sensor, push pin and four metric bolts from the bottom edge of the fascia, belly pan, temperature sensor bracket and bolt, three bolts from the metal bumper on each side, horns (four bolts and one push pin on each side), and washer fluid reservoir (three bolts and electrical/fluid lines).
Yes. Drilling is required. A 13/32" drill bit is used to drill holes in the horns and baseplate for mounting bolts. The manual states that drilling is required as part of the installation process.
Yes. Trimming is required in multiple locations: (1) On the passenger's side, metal next to the radiator must be trimmed flush with the front of the bracket using a reciprocating saw, then tapped toward the radiator to make flush (approximately 1/4"); (2) Air baffle tabs must be trimmed as necessary to accommodate baseplate installation; (3) Belly pan tabs must be trimmed parallel with the ground on both sides; (4) The fascia opening for the attachment tabs must be trimmed with diagonal cutters on both sides.
The trimming of metal next to the radiator on the passenger's side using a reciprocating saw is a permanent modification. The trimming of the fascia opening for the attachment tabs is also permanent. These modifications cannot be reversed without significant work. The trimming of air baffle tabs and belly pan tabs are also permanent modifications to those components.
The manual provides a general torque chart for metric and inch bolts by grade. For the 3/8"-16 bolts (Grade 5) used extensively in this installation, the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. For the 1/4"-20 bolt (Grade 5), the torque is 10 foot-pounds. For the 6MM-1.0 bolt (Grade 8.8), the torque is 6 foot-pounds. All bolts must be tightened according to the torque chart on the front page of the instructions or page 3 of the baseplate towing general instructions, and Loctite RED must be used on all bolts before tightening.
The attachment tab height is 13-3/4" and the attachment tab width is 24".
The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2008 Lexus IS250. The manual does not state that a wiring kit is required, but it is recommended. Refer to the wiring kit instructions for installation details.
The kit includes 1 electrical bracket (part 299-0685) which is optional and can be mounted to the center of the fascia. The kit also includes a 6-pin connector and 4-pin connector shown in the parts diagram. The manual does not provide detailed wiring instructions; refer to the General Information sheet and any separate wiring kit instructions for complete electrical installation details.
Yes. Two Class III safety cables (part 226-0046) are included with the baseplate kit. The cables must be wrapped around the torsion bar twice and attached to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The permanent baseplate safety cables must be wrapped around the torsion bar twice and then attached to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The manual shows the recommended installation in Step 24. Additional options may interfere with the suggested mounting; in that case, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the safety cables against wires, hoses or brake lines.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and cannot be reused. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 for replacement parts or a new baseplate.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for: cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure that Loctite RED has been used on all bolts and that they are tightened to the recommended specifications. Check that the safety cables are properly attached and do not rub against any hoses or moving parts.
Yes. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use. The manual states: "Remove the attachment tabs when not in use (if applicable)."
Yes. It is crucial to register your product online at www.blueox.com. Registration ensures that you will be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
The breakaway bracket (part 102-7056) is an optional component included with the BX2911 kit. It can be mounted to the bottom of the metal bumper, all the way back to the bottom ridge of the bumper, positioned halfway between the electrical rods and the convenience link. It is installed using a 1/4"-20 x 3/4" hex bolt, 1/4"-20 hex nylon nut, and #10-16 x 1" self-drilling screw. Installation is optional.
Yes, the BX2911 is designed specifically for the 2008 Lexus IS250. However, minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances.
Required tools include: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, diagonal cutters, Phillips screwdriver, hammer, drill with 13/32" bit, reciprocating saw, 10MM socket, 17MM socket, 9/16" socket, 9/16" wrench, and Loctite RED.
For Grade 5 bolts (3/8"-16), the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. All bolts must have Loctite RED applied before tightening.
Yes, two Class III safety cables are included. They must be wrapped around the torsion bar twice and attached to the convenience link on the baseplate. Safety cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed.
The RangeFinderII tow bar cannot be used. Only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters are compatible. Refer to your tow bar and adapter instructions for compatibility.
