Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. The fascia cover, fascia, and windshield washer fluid reservoir must be removed during installation and reinstalled after the baseplate is installed. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface. Some drilling and trimming is required.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill five 3/8" diameter holes on each side of the vehicle (driver's side and passenger side) into the frame rail. Use a 3/8" drill bit and be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length when using a power drill.
Yes, trimming is required. Using a reciprocating saw, trim the bumper horn five inches up from the bottom, flush with the face of the frame, on both sides of the vehicle. Additionally, make two horizontal cuts (between 1" and 1.5" long) on the side of the frame rail on both sides, aligned with existing holes, and trim additional metal from the area. Be aware of objects behind the cutting surface when using a reciprocating saw. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
According to the bolt torque specifications chart, 3/8" Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.

1. Remove fascia cover (4 push pins from top, 2 from inside near headlights). 2. Remove three screws from top of fascia and center push pin. 3. Remove three push pins in front of tire and one bolt from upper wheel well on both sides. 4. Remove two bolts from front of fascia. 5. Remove eleven push pins underneath fascia. 6. Disconnect electrical connections and remove fascia. 7. Remove windshield washer fluid reservoir (2 push pins, electrical connections, fluid lines, 3 bolts). 8. Trim bumper horn 5" from bottom on both sides. 9. Make two horizontal cuts on frame rail on both sides. 10. Slide baseplate into position, clamp with vise grips, and install bolts on existing holes. 11. Drill five 3/8" holes on each side and install bolts. 12. Reinstall windshield washer fluid reservoir. 13. Attach safety cables. 14. Trim fascia around convenience links and attachment tabs, then reinstall fascia and fascia cover.
Slide the baseplate into position and ensure it is level and aligned with existing holes before clamping to the frame rail on both sides with large vise grips. Only after confirming proper position and alignment should you insert and tighten the bolts.

The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. These permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
