Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX3310 baseplate is designed for 1995–02 Saturn SC1, 1997–02 Saturn SC2, 1996–02 Saturn SL/SL1, 1993–02 Saturn SL2/SW2, and 1996–99 Saturn SW1 models. Confirm your vehicle model year and body style against this list before purchasing.
No. Due to the design of the removable attachment tabs, the RangeFinder II, Adventurer, and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used with the BX3310 baseplate. Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended. The Acclaim tow bar may be used, but will not fold and store on the front of the vehicle.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX3310 baseplate. The exceptions are the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters, which are compatible.
The attachment tab height is 13 inches and the width is 24 inches.
Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary for fit work. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting the Customer Care Department at (402) 385-3051.
Required tools are: 7MM wrench, 10MM wrench, 9/16" wrench, 13/32" drill bit, drill, vise grips, utility knife, medium flat screwdriver, and LOCTITE Red.
Yes. Drilling is required. You will drill four 3/8" holes for the front braces and additional holes for the side plates. A 13/32" drill bit is required.
The plastic radiator shroud and the center plastic molding need to be trimmed. The radiator shroud requires notching on both sides: starting from where the plastic piece meets the bottom of the metal bumper, measure down 2 inches and mark it, then measure back 2½ inches and make another mark, then measure down 3¼ inches and make another mark, then back out to the front of the shroud. Make a line to each mark and cut out the small piece. Do not cut the shroud completely out the back, as that will considerably weaken it. Some vehicle fascias may also need trimming.
Yes. The bumper molding must be removed. Remove the plastic rivets on the top center and edge of the bumper molding. On the front edge of the fender wells are screws (7MM wrench) which need to be removed. Pull the fender well molding back and reach up inside with a 10MM socket and long extension to loosen the bolts that fasten the bumper molding to each quarter panel. Then pull the bumper forward and down to remove. On older models, remove the headlight assemblies first, then pull off the bumper molding.
Hold the baseplate so the inside plates are positioned on the outside of the frame in front of the indent. The baseplate is positioned correctly if the side plates are in front of the indents and the front braces on the baseplate align with the bottom of the metal bumper. On older models, quarter panel braces may interfere with the side plates; if so, remove the bolts that fasten these braces to the frame and then position the baseplate in the correct position.
The BX3310 kit includes: 1 baseplate weldment (61-5205), 2 nut plates with wire 3/8 inch (61-5207), 6 small nutplates with wire (61-5208), 10 3/8x1½" hex bolts Grade 5 (201-0440), 14 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), 2 removable attachment tabs LF/LB (62-3470), 2 self-drilling screws #10-16x1" (201-0654), 2 SL and SW model spacers (102-5550), 4 3/8"x1¼" hex bolts Grade 5 (201-0368), 4 3/8" hex nuts zinc plated (202-0003), 2 convenience links (102-4079), 2 fog light brackets (102-5696), 6 3/8" wire nuts (61-4978), 2 black cap plugs (290-0437), 2 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046), and 4 3/8" zinc-plated quicklinks (229-0359).
Spacers (part 102-5550) are used on SL and SW models only. Insert the spacers after drilling the four 3/8" holes for the front braces and before reclamping the baseplate to the frame.
Use LOCTITE Red on all bolts before tightening. This is required for proper installation.
The manual provides general bolt torque specification tables for Grade 5 and Grade 8 inch bolts, and Grade 8.8 and Grade 10.9 metric bolts. However, the specific torque values for the BX3310 baseplate bolts are referenced in the separate 'Baseplate General Towing Instructions' sheet, which is not included in this installation manual. Once all bolts have been started, tighten and torque all bolts according to the Bolt Torque Guidelines in the Baseplate General Towing Instructions. Consult that document or contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 for the specific torque values.
Use the large nutplate with wire (61-5207) for the front metal bumper attachment assemblies. Use the small nutplates with wire (61-5208) with the side plates.
Push the connector all the way in through the bumper mount with the release pin housing up. Rotate the connector until the locking pin engages. Be sure to rotate the connectors so the pin assemblies point up.
Pull on the ring to release the lock pin and rotate the connector. Pull the connector straight ahead to remove.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The principle function is to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame and the baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Permanent baseplate safety cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed on the vehicle. They are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses or brake lines.
Watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame. If the baseplate is improperly installed and is against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after the actual baseplate installation.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use LOCTITE Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use.
Yes. It is crucial to register your product online at www.blueox.com so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts on your baseplate. Use only genuine factory replacement parts. If a bolt is lost or in need of replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Failing to follow these instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor, or by calling the Customer Care Team at (402) 385-3051.
Yes. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle will void the warranty.
Confirm the towability and pre-towing procedures for your vehicle with the owner's manual or contact the vehicle's manufacturer for specific towing procedures.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. It is not stated as required, but is recommended for proper wiring of the towing system.
The BX3310 fits 1995–02 Saturn SC1, 1997–02 Saturn SC2, 1996–02 Saturn SL/SL1, 1993–02 Saturn SL2/SW2, and 1996–99 Saturn SW1. Confirm your exact model year and body style.
Yes. You will drill four 3/8" holes for the front braces and additional holes for the side plates using a 13/32" drill bit. Trimming of the plastic radiator shroud and center plastic molding is also required, and the bumper molding must be removed.
Required tools: 7MM wrench, 10MM wrench, 9/16" wrench, 13/32" drill bit, drill, vise grips, utility knife, medium flat screwdriver, and LOCTITE Red.
Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended. The Acclaim tow bar may be used but will not fold and store on the front. RangeFinder II, Adventurer, and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used. Most adapters are incompatible except BX8833 and BX88151.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is on the vehicle. They must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and not mounted against wires, hoses or brake lines. They supplement, not replace, legally required safety cables.
Before each towing trip, inspect for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use LOCTITE Red on all bolts and tighten to recommended specifications. Remove attachment tabs when not in use.
Blue Ox recommends installation by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the necessary equipment and knowledge. Find a dealer at www.blueox.com or call (402) 385-3051.
