Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, SATURN OUTLOOK (Part #FDRWBX3330) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The BX3330 is a Blue Ox towing baseplate designed specifically for 2007–2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles. It is a weldment assembly that attaches to the vehicle's frame and bumper to provide a connection point for a tow bar and safety cables when towing another vehicle. The baseplate includes attachment tabs, electrical connectors, and safety cable mounting points.
No. The BX3330 has removable attachment tabs that are not compatible with the RangeFinder II, Adventurer, or Ambassador tow bars. However, most other adapters can be used with this baseplate, with the exception of the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 to confirm compatibility with your specific tow bar.
The following tools are required: Phillips screwdriver, flat screwdriver, 7 mm socket, 10 mm socket, 15 mm socket, 17/32" drill bit, reciprocating saw, utility knife, and Loctite RED. A 3/4" socket is also needed to tighten the 1/2" hex bolts. A hack saw knife is required to trim the grille opening.
The kit includes: one baseplate weldment (61-6364), four 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" Grade 5 hex bolts (201-0051), four 1/2" lock washers (203-0012), four 1/2" nut wire weldments (61-4029), two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), two #10-32 x 1/2" slot round head screws (201-0192), two #10 lock washers (203-0054), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), two 4-way connectors (101-5822), two attachment assemblies (62-3468), two black cap plugs (290-0437), two 3/8" quicklinks (229-0359), and two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046). Four existing bolts from the vehicle are also reused.
Blue Ox recommends that the BX3330 be installed by a Blue Ox Dealer who is familiar with their products and has the equipment and knowledge to do "fit work." Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051. The installation involves drilling, cutting, and trimming, and requires careful handling of cosmetic parts to prevent damage.
Yes. The fascia must be removed during installation and then reinstalled after the baseplate is mounted. The manual notes that handling of cosmetic parts may require protective covers, rags, or specialty tools to prevent damage.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill a 1 1/4" hole into the frame on both sides of the vehicle to allow nut plates to pass through (Step 10). You must also drill two bottom holes into the frame on each side using a 17/32" drill bit to mount the baseplate to the frame (Step 12). When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length.
Yes. Trimming and cutting are required. You must use a utility knife to cut along a dashed line on the plastic piece (Step 7), use a reciprocating saw to cut out the frame according to the photo dimensions (Step 8: 9/16", 1", 2", and 3 3/4" measurements), and use a hack saw knife to trim out the opening in the grille for the attachment tabs (Step 14). These modifications are permanent.
The installation sequence is: (1) Remove push pins from the plastic piece on top (both sides); (2) Remove two Phillips screws on top of the fascia and one push pin from the top outside edge (both sides); (3) Remove four Phillips screws just forward of the front tire on the wheel well (both sides); (4) Remove two screws from just forward of the front tire underneath (both sides); (5) Remove one 7 mm bolt after pulling plastic back (both sides); (6) Remove one 10 mm bolt from the fog light brace (both sides); (7) Remove push pin and cut along dashed line with utility knife (both sides); (8) Mark and cut out frame with reciprocating saw (both sides); (9) Remove two 15 mm bolts from the front of the bumper (both sides); (10) Drill 1 1/4" hole into frame (both sides); (11) Slide baseplate up and insert existing bumper bolts, tighten snug (both sides); (12) Drill two bottom holes with 17/32" bit, insert nut plates, insert 1/2" hex bolts and lock washers, tighten (both sides); (13) Attach permanent baseplate safety cables; (14) Align fascia and trim grille opening with hack saw knife (both sides); (15) Reinstall all removed screws and push pins.
Four existing bolts from the vehicle's bumper and frame are reused. Specifically, the two 15 mm bolts from the front of the bumper (Step 9) are reinserted and tightened to mount the baseplate to the bumper (Step 11). All other fasteners removed during disassembly (Phillips screws, push pins, 7 mm bolt, 10 mm bolt) are reinstalled in their original locations after the baseplate is mounted.
If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, you must use a replacement bolt of the same grade. In most cases, the replacement will be Grade 5. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. Using the wrong grade of bolt could void the manufacturer's warranty and compromise safety.
The manual provides a general torque chart for Grade 5 and Grade 8 bolts. For 1/2" Grade 5 bolts, the torque is 78 foot-pounds; for 1/2" Grade 8 bolts, the torque is 119 foot-pounds. The kit includes Grade 5 bolts (201-0051). However, the manual does not explicitly state which grade applies to the existing bumper bolts. Tighten all bolts according to the torque chart on the front page of the installation instructions or page 3 of the Baseplate Towing General Instructions, and use Loctite RED on all bolts before tightening.
The attachment tab height is 16 1/2" and the attachment tab width is 23". If the front of your vehicle looks different than shown in the manual, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2007–2010 Saturn Outlook. The manual shows a possible location for this kit on the vehicle. Ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX3330 kit includes two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046). These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. The cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
No. Do not use the towed vehicle for storing luggage, equipment, or other items. This may cause you to exceed the towing capacity of the tow bar, baseplate, and its accessories, which could result in equipment failure or loss of the towed vehicle.
If the baseplate is damaged or involved in an accident, it must be replaced and not reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using a damaged baseplate again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts. If you have questions about damage assessment, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
Before using the baseplate, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. After installation, it is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Confirm the towability and pre-towing procedures for your vehicle with the owner's manual or contact the vehicle's manufacturer for specific towing procedures.

If the front of your vehicle looks different than the photo shown in the manual, call Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and while the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for auto manufacturer's tolerances. These minor adjustments may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates.
Yes, the BX3330 is designed specifically for 2007–2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles. It is not compatible with other vehicle models.
Yes. A reciprocating saw is required to cut out the frame according to the specified dimensions during Step 8 of the installation.
Two hole sizes are required: a 1 1/4" hole drilled into the frame to allow nut plates to pass through (Step 10, both sides), and two 17/32" holes drilled into the frame for baseplate mounting (Step 12, both sides).
For Grade 5 1/2" bolts (which are included in the kit), use 78 foot-pounds. Always use Loctite RED on all bolts before tightening.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
Yes. Two 36" Class III permanent baseplate safety cables are included. These must be connected from the baseplate to the vehicle's frame and should remain installed as long as the baseplate is on the vehicle.
Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. Before each towing trip, inspect the baseplate for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts.
Ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly before installing the fascia. Check that the 4-way connectors are fully seated and that all wiring is properly routed. If connections are still not functioning, verify that the BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit (if installed) is properly connected. Contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 or 1-800-228-9289 for assistance.
