Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX1522 attachment tab height is 13 inches and the width is 28 inches. Ensure the tow bar being used is compatible with the 28-inch tab width.
Blue Ox recommends that baseplates be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting (402) 385-3051.
The fascia, bumper, and windshield washer fluid reservoir must be removed during installation and then reinstalled after the baseplate is installed. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface.
Yes, drilling is required. A 1/4-inch starter hole and a 1/2-inch hole must be drilled in the frame on the passenger side of the vehicle for the support plate installation. Additionally, the bumper slot holes must be enlarged 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch as needed towards the outside on both sides.
Yes, trimming is required. The fascia must be marked and trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs before reinstallation.
Required tools include: flat screwdriver, 7MM socket, torque wrench, 10MM socket, reciprocating saw, drill, 11MM socket, level, Loctite Red, 5/8-inch drill bit, T15 Torx, 11MM wrench, 15MM socket, 15MM wrench, 3/4-inch socket, and 9/16-inch wrench.
The kit includes: 8 existing 10MM flat washers and bolts, 4 whiz nuts with 10-inch wire (part 61-4029), 2 attachment tab assemblies (62-3469), 2 support plates (101-10572), 1 1/4-inch hex head bolt (201-0050), 4 1/2-inch hex head bolts (201-0051), 2 #10-32 round slotted head screws (201-0192), 4 3/8-inch hex head bolts (201-0368), 2 #12-14 self-drilling screws (201-0979), 2 #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), 4 3/8-inch hex nylon insert lock nuts (202-0090), 1 1/4-inch hex nylon nut (202-0102), 4 7/16-inch flat washers (203-0004), 4 1/2-inch lock washers (203-0012), 2 #10 lock washers (203-0054), 1 electrical bracket (299-0685), 2 class III safety cables (226-0046), 2 3/8-inch quicklinks (229-0359), 2 8-inch nylon cable ties (290-0275), and 2 black cap plug receivers (290-0437).
The existing 10MM x 1.5 x 40MM bolts should be torqued according to the torque chart provided in the manual. For Grade 5 bolts, the specification is not listed for 10MM; refer to the Grade 8.8 metric chart: 6MM = 6 ft-lbs, 8MM = 16 ft-lbs. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The 3/8-inch hex head bolts (part 201-0368) should be torqued to 33 ft-lbs for Grade 5 bolts or 47 ft-lbs for Grade 8 bolts, according to the inch bolt torque chart. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The 1/2-inch hex head bolts (part 201-0051) should be torqued to 78 ft-lbs for Grade 5 bolts or 119 ft-lbs for Grade 8 bolts, according to the inch bolt torque chart. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The 1/4-inch hex head bolt (part 201-0050) should be torqued to 10 ft-lbs for Grade 5 bolts or 14 ft-lbs for Grade 8 bolts, according to the inch bolt torque chart. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The manual shows a breakaway switch, 6-pin connector, and 4-pin connector in the parts diagram. The electrical bracket (part 299-0685) is included. Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia. The BX8848 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1522 kit includes 2 class III safety cables (part 226-0046) and 2 3/8-inch quicklinks (part 229-0359). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and functioning properly. Verify that safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls.
Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these guidelines will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Yes, the BX1522 fits 2024-2026 Buick Envista with no lower shutters or engine block heater, including ACC and Turbo variants. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 if your vehicle front looks different.
Yes. A 1/4-inch starter hole and 1/2-inch hole must be drilled in the frame on the passenger side. Bumper slot holes must be enlarged 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Fascia must be trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs.
Required tools: torque wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, T15 Torx, 7MM/10MM/11MM sockets, 15MM socket and wrench, 5/8-inch drill bit, flat screwdriver, level, and Loctite Red.
Fascia, bumper, and windshield washer fluid reservoir must be removed and then reinstalled after baseplate installation.
3/8-inch Grade 5 bolts: 33 ft-lbs; 1/2-inch Grade 5 bolts: 78 ft-lbs. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening.
The baseplate must be replaced. Do not reuse it. Accident damage can be unseen and cause serious injury or additional damage.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. Two class III cables are included. They must connect from baseplate to frame and not touch wires, hoses, or brake lines. They supplement, not replace, legally required towing vehicle safety cables.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. Use a level to ensure proper alignment and adjust as needed before final tightening of bolts.
Reposition the safety cables so they do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. If the suggested mounting location interferes with other components, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet. Ensure cables are not mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia. Check that the 6-pin connector and 4-pin connector are fully seated. Verify that the electrical bracket (part 299-0685) is properly installed. If the breakaway switch was installed, confirm it is properly mounted to the breakaway bracket with the 1/4-inch bolt and nut. If problems persist, contact Blue Ox Customer Service at (402) 385-3051.
