Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes. The fascia must be removed during installation and then reinstalled after the baseplate is mounted. The fascia will need to be trimmed on both sides to allow room for the baseplate and convenience link before reinstallation.
Yes. The windshield washer fluid reservoir must be removed from the passenger side of the vehicle during installation. All lines must be disconnected and plugged. The reservoir is then reinstalled and all lines are reconnected after the baseplate is mounted.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill a 1/4" starter hole and then a 1/2" hole in the vehicle frame on the passenger side to mount the support plate. Additionally, a hole must be drilled according to the tail light wiring kit instructions.

Yes. During installation, you must disconnect the electrical connection on the wheel well trim (both sides), the electrical connection on the passenger side of the vehicle, and unclip the electrical loom from the shroud on the passenger side. These connections are reconnected after the baseplate is installed. The electrical loom on the driver side must also be unclipped and then reattached after support plate installation.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed the GVWR.
Yes. Two Class III safety cables are included with the BX1521 kit and must be attached to the baseplate and secured to the vehicle frame. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member and must not rub against hoses or moving parts. These permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended and must be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
No. If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and cannot be reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury.

Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and all accessories are functioning properly. This includes the tail light wiring connections and any other electrical components that were disconnected during installation.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Paint any cut frame edges to prevent rusting.

If the holes on the bumper do not line up with the baseplate, slightly slot the holes in the bumper towards the outside. This adjustment allows the baseplate to be properly positioned while maintaining alignment with the bumper.
Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. If the recommended mounting location causes the cables to rub against hoses or moving parts, secure the cables to a different solid piece of the frame as described in the General Information sheet. Ensure the cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts before completing the installation.
