Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX2219 baseplate is designed for 1998–2001 Honda Accord EX and LX models with 4 or 6 cylinders. It does not fit the SE model. Confirm your model year and trim level before purchasing.
No. The manual states that use of Blue Ox baseplates with any tow bar not approved by Blue Ox invalidates the limited warranty. You must use a Blue Ox-approved tow bar with this baseplate.
You must remove the front bumper molding and the plastic rock guard. You will also need to remove rivets connecting the plastic fender well to the bumper molding and the middle plastic belly pan. The fender well itself does not need to come off. Additionally, remove the two rivets on the top of the bumper molding (under the hood), the rivets on the bottom holding the bumper molding and middle belly pan, and the two 10mm bolts in the bottom corners of the bumper molding by the front tires.
You must drill eight 13/32" holes in the frame. Additionally, you will need to drill holes for the upper braces (using wire nuts) and the side plate braces (using wire nuts for upper holes and whiz nuts for the lower two). Use the side plates as a template for drilling the side plate brace holes.
You must trim the outside lower edges of the grill openings to replace the bumper. You may also need to trim the upper inside bumper molding where the upper gussets mount. Before the bumper can be replaced, use a utility knife to trim about one inch around the outside edge of the lower grill openings. It may be helpful to trim the bumper where the upper braces are located; the bumper molding will fit without trimming in some areas.
Required tools are: 9/16" wrench, 9/16" socket, 10mm wrench, 8mm wrench, flat head screwdriver, utility knife, drill, and 13/32" drill bit. You will also need Loctite RED, which must be applied to each bolt to ensure bolts do not loosen while the vehicle is being towed.
The kit includes: one baseplate (61-5150), five 3/8" wire nuts (61-4978), nine 3/8-16 x 1¼ hex bolts (201-0368), nine 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), three 3/8" flat washers (203-0003), four 3/8-16 hex nuts (202-0003), one Honda transmission set-up decal (292-2127), two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), two #10 lock washers (203-0054), two #10-32 x ½" slot round head screws (201-0192), two 4-way connector adapters (101-5822), two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046), and four 3/8" quicklinks (229-0359).
Hold the baseplate up to the vehicle so the middle brace can be mounted to the lower cross frame directly below the radiator, where there is an existing hole. Use a 3/8" bolt with one of the wire nuts to temporarily fasten it to the cross frame. Hold the baseplate so the upper braces are up against the metal bumper. Mark the holes for the upper braces and remove the baseplate before drilling. Note that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and you may need to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear.
1. Temporarily fasten the middle brace to the lower cross frame using a 3/8" bolt and wire nut. 2. Mark the holes for the upper braces while the baseplate is held against the metal bumper. 3. Remove the baseplate and drill 13/32" holes. 4. Bolt the upper braces to the bumper, inserting wire nuts through the side of the bumper. 5. Drill holes for the side plate braces using the side plates as a template. 6. Install the side plate braces using wire nuts for upper holes and whiz nuts for lower holes. 7. Apply Loctite RED to each bolt. 8. Tighten the bolts on the outside and center braces.
Yes. The manual states: "USE LOCTITE RED ON EACH BOLT TO ENSURE THE BOLTS DO NOT LOOSEN WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING TOWED." This applies to all bolts on the upper braces, center braces, and side plate braces.
For 1989 & newer Honda automatics, you must shift the transmission from Drive to Neutral (not from Reverse to Neutral) before turning off the engine and towing on all four wheels. If you shift from Reverse to Neutral, the transmission will remain partially in reverse and will be damaged when towed on all four wheels. This partial neutral condition cannot be detected by revving the engine. A decal is included in the manual package to remind you of this procedure.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Contact the tow bar manufacturer or Blue Ox for replacement parts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications and that Loctite RED has been applied. Check that the permanent baseplate safety cables are properly connected and not mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines.

After drilling and bolting the upper braces to the bumper, trim the lower openings in the grill using a utility knife, trimming about one inch around the outside edge. You may also need to trim the bumper where the upper braces are located. Once trimmed, the bumper molding will fit back into place. The attachment tabs will come through the lower grill opening.
