Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX2205 is designed for 1984-85 Honda Accord models only. If your vehicle is a different year or model, this baseplate will not fit. Consult the manufacturer or a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle.
The system consists of a permanently mounted baseplate, two tie down clamps, two bumper brackets, and a detachable tow bar. The baseplate is secured with eight bolts (four provided, four existing), and the system includes spacer washers, hex bolts, lock washers, hex nuts, and two 36-inch baseplate safety cables with quicklinks.
Yes. Removal of the plastic belly pan is required. The two plastic push pins at the front outside corners are removed by pulling down on the pin head with pliers.
Yes. The front bumper must be removed. Remove the two bolts which secure the front bumper to its mounting brackets; these bolts are accessible through holes in the plastic trim located just below the bumper.
Required tools are: 3/4 socket, 10mm socket, 14mm socket, 17mm socket, 3/4 open end wrench, jack, pliers, and socket extension.
Yes. A jack is required to support the engine cross brace during installation. Place the jack below the center of the engine support cross brace and raise it enough to hold the cross brace in position when removing the four bolts that secure it to the frame.
Position the baseplate by inserting the short tube on the baseplate into the metal core of the rubber cross brace bushing. Hand start the four cross brace bolts before tightening.
3/8-inch bolts with lock washers and nuts are used to fasten the bumper brackets to the baseplate. These are provided in the kit.
10mm bolts are used to loosely install the two bumper brackets through the holes in the plastic trim into the bumper. These are provided in the kit.
Insert the small square part of the tie down clamps into the large upper end of the oblong hole in the tie down brackets on the vehicle. These brackets are stamped metal parts with an oblong hole facing downward and are welded to each side of the vehicle. Slide 1/2-inch spacer washers between the baseplate sides and the tie down bracket outer sides, then install 1/2-inch bolts, lock washers and nuts through the assembly.
1/2-inch spacer washers are used. Two are provided in the kit and are installed between the baseplate sides and the tie down bracket outer sides.

Possibly. The manual states that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the location and size of the holes in the baseplate were designed to allow easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame and baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. Two 36-inch safety cables with quicklinks are included in the kit. These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not be mounted against wires, hoses or brake lines.
No. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount them against wires, hoses or brake lines, as improper installation could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Contact the manufacturer for replacement parts.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.
