Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

You will drill two 1-1/4" access holes in the side of the frame on both sides of the vehicle for nut plate access, and a 13/32" drill bit is used to drill the front top hole in the baseplate through the frame on both sides. Additional holes are drilled for remaining fasteners.
Yes. A reciprocating saw is used to cut two vertical slits on the existing frame hole on both sides of the vehicle, and the tab is bent inward to allow nut plate access. Additionally, the fascia must be marked and trimmed around the convenience links and attachment tabs before reinstallation.
The following components must be removed and reinstalled after baseplate installation: fascia (gray), fascia cover (white), air baffle (white), and windshield washer fluid reservoir. The shrouds will not be reinstalled. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface during installation.

Position the baseplate onto the vehicle, level it, and clamp it to the frame before drilling. This ensures proper alignment before any holes are drilled through the frame.
First, drill the front top hole in the baseplate through the frame using a 13/32" drill bit, then install a 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" bolt with a 3/8" lock washer and secure with a 3/8" nut plate on the inside of the frame. Fully tighten both fasteners. Then continue drilling the remaining holes through the frame and install the remaining 3/8"-16 x 1-1/2" bolts with lock washers and nut plates. On the back flanges, drill the hole through the frame towards the top of the slots. Use Loctite Red on all bolt threads and tighten all bolts to the appropriate torque.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame as shown in the recommended installation photo. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Install on both sides of the vehicle. These cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The installer must watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and ensure the baseplate is not installed against any of these. If the baseplate is improperly installed against a wire or hose, it could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts some time after installation.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions. Even though bolts may be present on the vehicle, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting.
