Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes, the BX2242 is designed for 2006-07 Honda Accord models including LX, EX, and DX trim levels, but only vehicles without factory foglights. If your vehicle has a different front fascia design, contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 before proceeding.
No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX2242, the RangeFinder II, Adventurer and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used with this baseplate. Additionally, most adapters cannot be used; only the BX8833 and BX8815 adapters are compatible.
Required tools are: 10MM socket, 12MM socket, 9/16" socket, 13/32" drill bit, reciprocating saw, Phillips screwdriver, utility knife, vise grip, tape measure, and Loctite RED. A power drill is helpful but requires caution regarding torque and drill bit length.
Yes. The front fascia, fascia brace, and metal bumper must be removed for baseplate installation. Headlights are also removed and replaced during installation. Some vehicle fascias may need trimming to accommodate manufacturing tolerances.

Yes. Drilling is required. You will drill four holes into the frame rail using a 13/32" drill bit. The baseplate is used as a template to mark hole locations. Holes are drilled 1 1/4" down from the bottom of the frame rail after a section of the frame webbing is removed with a reciprocating saw.
Yes. Using a reciprocating saw, you must remove a section of the frame webbing. Measure 1 1/4" down from the bottom of the frame rail, make a horizontal mark on the webbing back to the cross member and down, then remove this portion with the reciprocating saw. This must be done on both sides of the vehicle.
Yes. Some vehicle fascias may need trimming. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturing tolerances. These adjustments may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates.
For 3/8-16 Grade 5 bolts, the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. All bolts must have Loctite RED applied before tightening.
For 6MM Grade 8.8 bolts, the torque specification is 8 foot-pounds. All bolts must have Loctite RED applied before tightening.

The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2006-07 Honda Accord, but the manual does not state it is required. Contact your Blue Ox Dealer or Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 to confirm whether it is necessary for your specific vehicle.
The removal sequence is: (1) Phillips head push pins from the fascia cover, (2) two metric bolts from the lower edge of the fascia near the front tire and one push pin (both sides), (3) four push pins from the lower edge of fascia and belly pan, (4) one Phillips head screw from the fascia corner (both sides), (5) two metric bolts from the washer reservoir, (6) four metric bolts from the top of the headlight assembly and one metric bolt from the side (both sides), (7) two metric bolts from the top and bottom of the metal bumper (both sides). Then proceed with frame rail preparation and baseplate installation.
Slide the baseplate into the frame rail and align the front edge with the end of the frame. Clamp it to the lower webbing with vise grips. Using the baseplate as a template, drill four holes into the frame with a 13/32" drill bit. Insert 3/8-16 nut plates inside the end of the frame to align with the two upper drill holes, then tighten the 3/8-16 hex bolts and 3/8" lock washers. For the lower hole, insert three flat washers between the lower frame webbing and baseplate, insert the 3/8-16 x 1 1/4" hex bolt into the lower hole on the baseplate, then tighten the 3/8-16 hex nut and lock washer. Repeat on both sides.
Reinstall the lower washer reservoir bolt using the existing bolt. For the front bolt location, use a 6MM-1 x 30MM hex bolt with a 1/4" lock washer and 1/4" flat washer.
Ensure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning BEFORE installing the fascia. This is critical to avoid electrical issues after installation.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do NOT use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do NOT use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and must be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use Loctite RED on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls. Remove the attachment tabs when not in use.

No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do NOT substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Failing to follow this requirement will void the manufacturer's warranty. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor, or by calling Customer Care at (402) 385-3051.
Yes. Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle will void the warranty. Additionally, failing to follow and/or altering these installation instructions in either installation or required equipment will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Always use hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware specified in the Baseplate Installation Instructions. Even though bolts may already be present on the vehicle, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting. The manual specifies which existing bolts to reuse (such as the lower washer reservoir bolt) and which new hardware to use.
