Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes. Drilling is required. You will drill four holes using a 13/32" drill bit to mount the baseplate to the frame (one hole initially as a template, then the remaining three). An additional hole is drilled in the bumper for the breakaway bracket. A drill and 13/32" drill bit are required tools.
Some vehicles' fascias may need trimming. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments may include filing holes slightly or bending end plates. Specific trimming is required on the fog light brackets on both sides and the driver's side fascia corner. A reciprocating saw is required for these cuts.
On the driver's side, cut across the top of the lower bracket and the plastic tab and remove. On both sides, cut the fog light bracket along the slot edge and straight down, then replace the housing to the bracket and reattach to the fascia. On the passenger side, trim the fog light bracket along the bend. These cuts are made with a reciprocating saw.
Yes. On both sides of the vehicle, clamp the air bag sensor bracket with a large vise grip and bend it back. This is done to provide clearance for the baseplate installation.

According to the torque chart on page 1, the torque specification for 3/8-16 Grade 5 bolts is 33 foot-pounds. With the vehicle on a level surface, the top of the baseplate should be flush with the frame offset and 7/8 inch down from the frame ledge. The baseplate must be level with respect to the vehicle frame. Use a large vise grip to clamp it in position before drilling.

Yes. Before removing the bumper, disconnect the temperature sensor by removing two push pins. After the baseplate installation is complete and before reinstalling the fascia, reconnect the temperature sensor.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Two 36-inch Class III safety cables are included with the BX2254. Permanent baseplate safety cables must be used in conjunction with, and are not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the frame rail or cross member. Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses or brake lines, as this could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and cannot be reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using a damaged baseplate again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Before installing the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. After installation, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts. It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment before each towing trip.

The 4-way connector pin (294-0805) and 6-way connector pin (294-0902) are not provided and must be obtained separately.

If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5).
