The CURT 19750 has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) capacity of 5,000 lbs. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended GVWR when towing.
The kit includes: 2 front tubes, 2 clevis mounts, 2 tow bar arms, 1 coupler assembly, 2 leg adapter weldments, 2 bolt plate weldments, 2 safety pins (1/2"), fasteners (hex bolts in 1/2" and 3/8" sizes, nuts, washers, and nylock nuts). Safety chains, wiring harness, coupler lock, and trailer ball are sold separately.
The CURT 19750 coupler attaches to a 2" ball hitch on the towing vehicle. The coupler is adjusted by turning the nut under the coupler to fit the ball, and must have no free play before towing.
Yes, but only with automatic transmissions that have pumps allowing towing or drive shaft disconnects. Manual transmissions must be in neutral. You must verify your vehicle's transmission type and follow the vehicle manufacturer's towing procedures in the owner's manual.
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 9/16" socket, 3/4" socket, 9/16" open end wrench, and 3/4" open end wrench. A torque wrench is essential to achieve the correct fastener torque specifications (75 ft-lbs for 1/2" fasteners, 31 ft-lbs for 3/8" fasteners).
Clevis mounts should be spaced equally from the vehicle centerline. The recommended spacing is 26" to 41", with 33" preferred. They should be secured to a flat, nearly vertical area of the bumper.
The clevis mounts should be secured to rigid mounting points on the towed vehicle frame. It is recommended they be attached to a flat, nearly vertical area of the bumper. The installer or owner is responsible for locating suitable rigid mounting points, and a structure may need to be fabricated to allow the tow bar to attach to the frame.
Yes. Using the clevis mount as a template, you must drill two 1/2" holes into the attachment surface on both sides of the towed vehicle for each clevis mount.
All 1/2" fasteners securing the clevis mounts to the attachment surface must be torqued to 75 ft-lbs. These fasteners include the 1/2"-13 x 1-3/4" hex bolts, 1/2" flat washers, and 1/2"-13 center lock hex nuts.
The 3/8" fasteners securing the coupler assembly to the front tubes must be torqued to 31 ft-lbs after the coupler is centered with the towed vehicle.
Secure the leg adapter weldments to the tow bar arms using 1/2"-13 x 3-1/2" hex bolts and 1/2"-13 top lock flange nuts. Tighten the 1/2" hardware until contact is made with both sides of the tow bar arms. Back off slightly if necessary to ensure the tow bar arms swing freely.
Attach the tow bar arms to the front tubes using 3/8"-16 hex bolts, 3/8" flat washers, and 3/8"-16 nylock nuts. These fasteners should be loosely secured initially; final torque to 31 ft-lbs occurs after the coupler is centered with the towed vehicle.
Loosely secure the coupler assembly to the front tubes using the bolt plate weldments, 3/8" serrated washers, and 3/8"-16 center lock hex nuts. After centering the coupler with the towed vehicle, torque the 3/8" fasteners to 31 ft-lbs.
Attach the tow bar assemblies to the previously installed clevis mounts using the 1/2" safety pins. The safety pins secure the connection between the tow bar arms and clevis mounts.
Never exceed 50 miles per hour when towing with the CURT 19750. Always tow at reduced speeds and avoid rough terrain and sharp turns.
The steering wheel of the towed vehicle must be unlocked to allow the vehicle to track freely while towing. Failure to unlock the steering wheel may result in loss of control, property damage, personal injury, or death.
Yes. Always use safety cables when towing. Safety cables must be long enough to allow for turns without becoming entangled with the tow bar or latch handles. Never wrap cables around tow bar arms. Inspect safety cables prior to towing and never use damaged cables. Safety cables are sold separately.
Yes. Attach two safety chains between the vehicles. Each individual safety chain must have a break strength equal to or exceeding the gross weight of the towed vehicle. Safety chains are sold separately.
The height difference between the ball and the clevis mount must not exceed 6". If the height difference is greater than 6", adjust the ball height to make the tow bar level.
Before every towing use, inspect the tow bar and towing system for cracked welds, loose, worn, or damaged parts. Do not tow with a damaged or worn tow bar or towing system. Also verify that the coupler latch engages properly, there is no free play between the coupler and hitch ball, the coupler is secured with a safety pin or coupler lock, safety chains are attached, wiring is connected, vehicles are aligned with proper tire pressure, and the steering wheel is unlocked.
Adjust the coupler to fit the trailer ball by turning the nut under the coupler. The coupler latch must engage the coupler and the coupler must not be loose on the trailer ball. Always ensure there is no free play between the coupler and hitch ball before towing.
The coupler latch must be secured with a safety pin or a coupler lock (sold separately). This prevents the coupler from accidentally releasing during towing.
Periodic inspection of the product should be performed to ensure all hardware and components remain secure. At minimum, inspect the tow bar and towing system prior to every use for cracked welds, loose, worn, or damaged parts.
