The kit includes: two tow bar base plates (driver and passenger), two tow bar mounting tabs, two safety cables rated for 7,500 lbs each, two conical washers (1/2"), two hex bolts (1/2"-13, 5", grade 5), two round hole spacers (2" x 1/4"), two quick links (1/2"), and two socket plugs. The tow hooks and frame rail extensions removed during installation are not part of the kit and should be returned to the vehicle owner.
Yes. Installation requires temporary removal of the radiator cover, bumper cover, wheel well liners, and front fascia panels to access the tow hook brackets and frame extensions. These panels are reinstalled after the base plates are secured. The tow hooks and frame extensions are removed and not reinstalled.
Required tools: torque wrench, drill, drill bit (1/4"), T27 Torx bit, sockets (3/4", 8mm, 10mm, 15mm, 16mm, 30mm), wrench (3/4"), and flat screwdriver. The manual also recommends having new push pins or plastic rivets on hand to secure the fascia underside during reinstallation.
The installation is rated as Difficult. The difficulty level is based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
Yes. Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Additionally, take care when cutting any plastic or metal, as injury may occur if done improperly.
Open the hood and remove the radiator cover by pulling out 13 push pins: six on either side of the vehicle and one in the center. Set the cover aside.
After removing the radiator cover, use a T27 Torx bit to remove two screws behind the radiator cover (one on each side). Then remove three wheel well liner bolts using an 8mm socket, pull the liner back, and remove the bolt behind the liner at the fender and bumper seam using a 10mm socket (repeat on other side). Remove two rivets on the underside corners of the front fascia panel and four underside bolts using a 10mm socket. Use a flat screwdriver to release clips in the fender seam by twisting between the tabs. Carefully pull the fascia panel out, working from outer edges toward center. Unplug foglight wiring harnesses and the electrical connection on the driver side (pull yellow clip and slide red lock toward it). Carefully remove the bumper cover and set aside.
Use a 16mm socket to remove two bolts on the underside of the tow hook bracket, then use a 30mm socket to remove the backside tow hook nut. Set the tow hook aside and repeat on the other side. Use a 15mm socket to remove three bolts holding the frame extension in place, then use a 10mm socket to remove the nut (some models have a clip instead of a nut). Repeat on the other side. Return the tow hooks and frame extensions to the vehicle owner.
Position the driver side tow bar base plate (#1) and secure it using four factory bolts: one from the tow hook and three from the frame extensions removed earlier. Torque the bumper bolt first to 45.2 lb-ft, then torque the three frame bolts each to 45.2 lb-ft. Repeat on the passenger side with the passenger base plate (#2).
Torque each factory bolt to 45.2 lb-ft. Torque the bumper bolt first, then the three frame bolts.
On the backside of each base plate, install a supplied 1/2" hex bolt (#6) with a conical washer (#5) and a 1/4" thick round-hole spacer (#7). Torque the 1/2" x 5" hardware to 75 lb-ft. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle.
Torque the 1/2" x 5" hex bolts to 75 lb-ft.
Install the permanent safety cables (#4) and quick links (#8), looping them around the vehicle frame and linking them to the tow bar base plates. There must be one cable on each side of the vehicle. Make sure the cables do not pinch or interfere with any hoses, wiring, or other components. The cables must be connected to both the base plate and the vehicle frame, and each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle. Base plate safety cables are not a replacement for safety chains connecting the tow vehicle to the towed vehicle.
Each safety cable is rated for 7,500 lbs. Two cables are installed, one on each side of the vehicle.
Reinstall the bumper cover and all panels that were previously removed. Plug in the wiring harnesses removed during disassembly. To secure the underside of the fascia, the manual recommends installing new push pins or plastic rivets.
When ready to tow, install the tow bar mounting tabs (#3). When not towing, insert the socket plugs (#9) into the ends of the tow bar base plates.
Periodically check the condition of all towing equipment. Ensure all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Do not tow with worn or damaged parts. Review your vehicle and trailer owner's manuals for specific towing recommendations, capacities, and requirements.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).
The installed attachment tabs are 20" in height and 37-1/4" in width.
No. Base plate safety cables are not a replacement for safety chains connecting the tow vehicle to the towed vehicle. Both should be used when towing.

Factory bolts securing the base plates: 45.2 lb-ft each. The 1/2" x 5" hex bolts on the backside: 75 lb-ft.
Yes, it is rated as Difficult. The installation requires removal and reinstallation of multiple fascia components, removal of tow hooks and frame extensions, and proper torque specifications. Difficulty may vary based on installer expertise and vehicle condition.
Yes. Two permanent safety cables rated for 7,500 lbs each must be installed, one on each side, connecting the base plates to the vehicle frame. They prevent complete vehicle separation in case of disconnect but do not replace safety chains between tow and towed vehicles.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Take care when cutting plastic or metal to avoid injury.
Return the tow hooks and frame rail extensions to the vehicle owner. They are not reinstalled as part of the CURT 70103 installation.
