Both the 29423 and 29433 have identical specifications: 900 lbs capacity, 3.25:1 gear ratio, and 6 1/2" handle length. The only difference is that the 29433 includes a winch strap, while the 29423 does not include a strap.
No. The manual explicitly states: 'Never use a hand winch for lifting equipment or humans.' This winch is designed only for pulling and loading applications such as boat trailers.
You will need three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, three lock washers, six flat washers, and three nuts. These are not included with the winch.
The manual indicates that the strap is 'not included with all models.' Part 29423 does not include a strap; part 29433 does. If you need a strap for the 29423, it must be purchased separately.
The manual does not specify any pre-installation disconnection steps. However, you should verify that the mounting location is clean and that the winch base will be properly bolted to a structure or vehicle capable of holding both the winch and the load.
Follow these steps: (1) Insert the steel cable through the square hole from inside to outside. (2) Insert the cable through the second hole from outside to inside. (3) Insert the cable through the square hole again from inside to outside. (4) Pull the cable tight. (5) Wrap the cable onto the drum. Always leave at least five wraps of cable on the drum.
Place the provided strap bolt through the sewn loop in the winch strap and secure it with the strap bolt nut. The installed winch strap should be rated at 1.5 times the winch's rated capacity (1,350 lbs for the 900 lbs winch), and the hook on the strap should be rated at 1.5 times the strap's rated capacity.
Assemble each of the three mounting bolts as follows: place a lock washer on the bolt, then a flat washer, insert the bolt through the mounting hole on the winch, add another flat washer on the other side, and secure with a nut. Use three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts. Ensure the winch base is properly bolted to a structure or vehicle capable of holding both the winch and the load.
Prior to operating the winch, secure the handle to the input shaft with the provided lock nut. The handle must be properly secured before use.
Install the cable first, then the strap (if applicable), then mount the winch to the structure using the three bolts and fasteners, and finally secure the handle to the input shaft with the provided lock nut before operation.
Wear impact safety glasses and heavy duty work gloves. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can be caught in moving parts. Wear protective hair covering to prevent long hair from becoming caught. If wearing a long sleeve shirt, roll the sleeves up to the elbows.
Check for damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect operation. Carefully verify that the winch will operate properly and perform its intended function. Replace or repair damaged or worn parts immediately. Check the rope, cable, or strap before each use for signs of wear; if wear is visible, replace immediately.
Always leave at least five wraps of cable on the drum. Failure to do so may break the cable connection to the drum and could result in serious injury.
When the cable under a load is wound onto the drum, a minimum space of two times the cable diameter must remain on the drum flange. This prevents sideways cable slip and winch overloading.

When loading a boat onto a trailer without keel or side hull rollers, make sure the trailer is submerged in the water when the boat is loaded by the winch. Attempting to drag the boat onto the trailer while on land can cause winch failure and possibly personal injury and property damage.
Stand back and stay out of the direct line that the winch cable is pulling. In the event the winch cable slips or breaks, it will 'whip-lash' along this line.
Keep the work area clean and dry; damp, cluttered and wet areas invite injuries. Keep children away from the work area and do not allow them to handle the winch. Do not overreach the winch. Keep proper footing and balance at all times to prevent tripping, falling, back injury, etc.
Always maintain a firm grip on the winch handle and do not release the handle until the ratchet pawl is properly engaged. Release the handle slowly to be sure that the ratchet lever is fully supporting the load. Never let go of the handle prior to engaging the ratchet lever, as this may cause the handle to spin dangerously.
Engage the ratchet lever in the pinion gear and begin turning the handle. The ratchet will make a loud clicking noise when the line is being wound on the winch drum. If you do not hear a loud clicking noise, the ratchet is not securing the load. Do not let go of the handle until the load has been secured.
Firmly hold the winch handle and release the ratchet lever. The handle may need to be rotated slightly to move the ratchet lever. Carefully rotate the handle to let line out. Do not let go of the handle until the ratchet lever has been properly engaged and is supporting the load. Let go of the handle slowly to be sure that the ratchet lever is supporting the load.
If you do not hear a loud clicking noise when winding the strap in, the ratchet is not securing the load. Do not let go of the handle. Check that the ratchet lever is properly engaged in the pinion gear and try again. If the problem persists, do not use the winch until the ratchet mechanism is inspected and repaired.
