After a full day on the water, you and your crew are tired. It doesn't matter if you were swimming off the back of the pontoon boat, racing around the lake in your speed boat or just casting a line off the side of your fishing boat -- when you get to shore, the last thing you want to deal with is a faulty hand crank on your boat trailer. You want a winch that makes your job easy and that lets you get out of the marina and back home sooner. CURT hand winches are constructed from cold-forged steel to provide structurally superior pinions and eliminate gear-to-shaft bonding failures. They are designed to be mounted on a variety of trailers and are especially useful for boat trailers. CURT boat winches can also serve a number other winch applications, though they are not designed for vehicle towing. This CURT hand winch or boat winch features a capacity of 1,400 lbs. with a gear ratio of 4.2:1. It has a hub diameter of 3/4" and a handle length of 7-1/2". It also comes with a 20' winch strap and zinc-plated snap hook.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.
CURT, a Lippert brand, offers a complete line of towing products and is the leading manufacturer of custom-fit trailer hitches. We offer the broadest selection of custom-fit hitches, and each one is designed, welded, and coated in Wisconsin.

The Curt 29435 has a maximum load capacity of 1,400 lbs. Never exceed this capacity. The cable anchor on the winch is not capable of holding the maximum rated load capacity when the cable is fully extended, so do not apply a load to the winch when the cable is fully extended.
Yes. The Curt 29435 includes a winch strap. Models 29424 and 29425 do not include a strap.
The Curt 29435 has a gear ratio of 4.2:1 and a handle length of 7 1/2".
No. Never use a hand winch for lifting equipment or humans. The winch is designed only for pulling and loading applications such as loading boats onto trailers.
You will need three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, three lock washers, six flat washers, and three nuts to secure the winch to the mounting location. Additionally, a lock nut is required to secure the handle to the input shaft.
Before installation, check for damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect operation. Carefully verify that the winch will operate properly and perform its intended function. Replace or repair any damaged or worn parts immediately. The winch base must be properly bolted to a structure or vehicle that can hold both the winch and the winch load.
1. Insert the steel cable through the square hole from the inside to the outside. 2. Insert the cable through the second hole from the outside to the inside. 3. Insert the cable through the square hole from the inside to the outside again. 4. Pull the cable tight. 5. Wrap the cable onto the drum.
Place the provided strap bolt through the sewn loop in the winch strap and secure it with the strap bolt nut. The installed winch strap should be rated at 1.5 times the winch's rated capacity (2,100 lbs. for the 29435). The hook on the strap should be rated at 1.5 times the strap's rated capacity.
1. Place a lock washer, then a flat washer on each bolt. 2. Place each bolt through the mounting holes on the winch. 3. Add one more flat washer on each bolt. 4. Secure with a nut. Use three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, three lock washers, six flat washers, and three nuts total. Make sure the winch base is properly bolted to a structure or vehicle that can hold both the winch and the winch load.
Secure the handle to the input shaft with the provided lock nut. Prior to operating the winch, verify that the handle is properly secured to the winch input shaft.
Wear impact safety glasses and heavy duty work gloves. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can be caught in moving parts. Wear protective hair covering to prevent long hair from becoming caught. If wearing a long sleeve shirt, roll the sleeves up to the elbows. Do not overreach the winch. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Stand back and stay out of the direct line that the winch cable is pulling, as a slipping or breaking cable will whiplash along this line. Keep the work area clean and dry. Keep children away from the work area.
Check the rope, cable, or strap before each use for signs of wear. If the rope, cable, or strap show signs of wear, replace immediately. Also check for damaged parts and any other conditions that may affect operation of the winch.
Always maintain a firm grip on the winch handle and do not release the handle until the ratchet pawl is properly engaged. Release the handle slowly to be sure that the ratchet lever is fully supporting the load. If you do not hear a loud clicking noise when turning the handle, the ratchet is not securing the load. Do not let go of the handle until the load has been secured.
Firmly hold the winch handle and release the ratchet lever. The handle may need to be rotated slightly to move the ratchet lever. Carefully rotate the handle to let line out. Do not let go of the handle until the ratchet lever has been properly engaged and is supporting the load. Let go of the handle slowly to be sure that the ratchet lever is supporting the load. Never let go of the handle prior to engaging the ratchet lever, as this may cause the handle to spin dangerously.
After moving an object with the winch, secure the object. Do not rely on the winch to hold an object for an extended period of time.
Always leave at least five wraps of cable or belt on the drum. Failure to do so may break the cable connection to the drum and could result in serious injury. Additionally, the cable under a load should only be wound onto the drum so that a minimum space of two times the cable diameter remains on the drum flange to avoid sideways cable slip and winch overloading.
No. Do not use any attachments to extend the length of the winch cable.
When loading a boat onto a trailer without keel or side hull rollers, make sure the trailer is submerged in the water when the boat is loaded by the winch. Attempting to drag the boat onto the trailer while on land can cause winch failure and possibly personal injury and property damage.
1,400 lbs. Never exceed this capacity, and do not apply a load when the cable is fully extended.

Check the cable or strap for signs of wear and replace immediately if damaged. Verify the winch is properly secured and check for any damaged parts affecting operation.
You will hear a loud clicking noise when the line is being wound on the winch drum. If you do not hear this noise, the ratchet is not securing the load and you should not let go of the handle.
