It features an OE style design to fully integrate with the front of the vehicle and maintain a factory look. This Cadillac SRX tow bar baseplate is constructed from high-quality steel and is precisely welded for a perfect fit. It is physically tested for absolute safety and peace of mind while dinghy towing. It also features a unique co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and highly durable powder coat to protect against the outdoor elements. This base plate for towing comes with attachment tabs, safety cables and installation hardware.

The CURT 70123 is a tow bar base plate designed for dinghy towing. It includes a base plate, mounting tabs, safety cables rated for 7,500 lbs each, quick links, socket plugs, and all required fasteners. The installed attachment tabs measure 16-1/2" in height and 18" in width. When installed, there should be a 3-1/2" gap between the bottom of the bumper and the top of the base plate frame tube.

Required tools are: torque wrench, drill, sockets (9/16", 7mm, 10mm), drill bits (1/4", 13/32"), hole saw (1-1/4"), wrench (9/16"), Phillips screwdriver, Torx T-15 screwdriver, flat head screwdriver, large vise grip, tape measure, fishwire (3/8", six included), and utility knife. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
The following must be temporarily removed: six push pins from the top fascia cover, rubber strip along the top, radiator cover, front fascia (secured by 10mm bolts along the top edge, Phillips or T-15 Torx screws along the wheel well liner, and 7mm bolts on the inside edge), and transmission coolant line loop (secured by two 10mm bolts). On 2010–2014 models, also remove the temperature sensor push pin. The wiring harness on the driver side connected to the bumper cover must be disconnected.
Yes. Drilling is required and permanent. You must drill: a 1/4" hole about 1" above the coolant line bolt holes, then enlarge to 1-1/4" using a hole saw or step drill; a 1-1/4" hole down through the passenger-side frame rail (through two layers of metal); and five 13/32" holes in the vehicle frame and side plate (one in the top front hole of the passenger side plate, two in the upper side plate, and two in the pinch flange). Trimming of the plastic air dam is also required using a utility knife.
Yes. Use a paint pen to mark the plastic air dam as needed to allow clearance for the base plate, then use a utility knife to cut the marked areas. Repeat on both sides of the vehicle. Some models may also require the lower fascia grille to be trimmed to make space for the safety cable loops and attachment tabs.
All hardware fastening the tow bar base plate to the vehicle frame must be torqued to 37 lb-ft. This applies to the 3/8"-16 carriage bolts with serrated-flange nuts (used in the frame rail holes), the 3/8"-16 carriage bolts with serrated-flange nuts (used in the upper side plate and pinch flange), and the 3/8" hex bolts with nylock nuts (used in the pinch flange).
1. Remove fascia panels, coolant lines and temperature sensor (Steps 1–7). 2. Trim plastic air dam (Step 8). 3. Drill coolant line holes and reattach coolant line (Steps 9–10). 4. Drill frame rail hole on passenger side (Step 11). 5. Position and clamp base plate with 3-1/2" gap from bumper (Step 12). 6. Drill and install fasteners on passenger side frame (Step 13). 7. Drill and install remaining fasteners on both sides (Step 14). 8. Reinstall temperature sensor on 2010–2014 models (Step 15). 9. Install safety cables and quick links (Step 16). 10. Reinstall fascia and fascia cover (Step 17).
Position the tow bar base plate on the vehicle so there is a 3-1/2" gap between the bottom of the bumper and the top of the base plate frame tube. The base plate must be level. Temporarily clamp it onto the frame before drilling and securing with fasteners.
Disconnect the wiring harness on the driver side connected to the bumper cover before removing the front fascia (Step 6). Remove the clip holding the wiring harness on the top of the passenger-side frame rail before drilling the 1-1/4" hole (Step 11). Reconnect all electrical harnesses when reinstalling the front fascia and fascia cover (Step 17).
Yes. Two permanent safety cables (7,500 lbs each) must be installed and used at all times when dinghy towing. The cables must be connected to the base plate and the vehicle frame, with one cable on each side. Each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle. Cables must not pinch or interfere with hoses, wiring or other components. Safety cables are not a replacement for safety chains connecting the tow vehicle to the towed vehicle.

After installation, verify that the base plate is level and properly secured with all fasteners torqued to 37 lb-ft. Ensure the 3-1/2" gap between the bumper and base plate frame tube is maintained. Verify that the fascia and fascia cover are fully reinstalled and all electrical harnesses are reconnected. Check that socket plugs are installed in the tow bar base plate ends when not towing.
Periodically check the condition of all towing equipment. Ensure all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Do not tow with worn or damaged parts. Review your vehicle manufacturer's owner's manual for specific towing recommendations, capacities and requirements. The manual recommends removing the base plate attachment tabs when not in use.

Not pictured in the parts list are safety cables, quick links and socket plugs.
The installation is rated as Difficult. Installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, the condition of the vehicle, and proper tools and equipment.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Take care when cutting any plastic or metal as injury may occur if done improperly. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).
When not towing, insert the socket plugs into the ends of the tow bar base plate. The manual also recommends removing the base plate attachment tabs when not in use.
Loop the two permanent safety cables around the vehicle frame and link them to the tow bar base plate main body using the included quick links. There must be one cable on each side of the vehicle. Make sure the cables do not pinch or interfere with any hoses, wiring or other components. Each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle. The cables must be connected to both the base plate and the vehicle frame.
The base plate is secured using: 3/8"-16 carriage bolts (grade 8) with 3/8"-16 serrated-flange nuts (grade 8) in the frame rail holes and upper side plate holes, and 3/8" hex bolts (grade 8) with 3/8"-16 nylock nuts (grade 8) in the pinch flange. Square-hole spacers (1/4" x 1" x 2") are used with the carriage bolts. All fasteners must be torqued to 37 lb-ft.
After drilling the 1/4" hole about 1" above the original coolant line bolt holes and enlarging it to 1-1/4" with a hole saw or step drill, reattach the coolant line using the 1/4" back side holes and supplied hardware: two hex bolts (1/4"-20 x 1", grade 8) and two flange nuts (1/4"-20, grade 5).

Ensure the 3-1/2" gap between the bottom of the bumper and the top of the base plate frame tube is maintained while achieving level positioning.
Reposition the safety cables to ensure they do not pinch or interfere with any hoses, wiring or other components. The cables must be looped around the vehicle frame and linked to the tow bar base plate main body with one cable on each side. Refer to the safety cable installation illustrations in the manual for proper routing guidance.
Some models may require the lower fascia grille to be trimmed to make space for the safety cable loops and attachment tabs. Use a utility knife to carefully trim the grille as needed. Ensure the trim does not compromise the structural integrity of the fascia.
