Fishwiring is a technique used to install hardware through tight spaces. In the CURT 70127 installation, you use 3/8" fishwires (included in the kit) to thread two 3/8" carriage bolts into the square holes on the engine side of the support bracket. The bolts are then secured with 3/8" serrated-flange nuts. The manual lists fishwiring as one of the required installation techniques but does not provide detailed instructions on the fishwiring technique itself. Install the two mounting tab support brackets in the factory holes above the tow hook mounting holes. The driver side uses the taller bracket (#4) and the passenger side uses the shorter bracket (#3). For each bracket: insert a 1/2" hex bolt (#7) with a conical-tooth washer (#13) into the top hole, place a flat washer (#12) onto the bolt on the other side of the plate, thread the bolt into the factory hole, and loosely install a 1/2" handle nut (#11). Bend the end of the handle over so that it is flush to the end of the frame. Do not fully tighten these bolts until Step 7 when all hardware is torqued to specification.
Position the driver-side tow bar base plate (#1) on the vehicle frame with the safety cable loops facing the center of the vehicle. Secure it to the support bracket (#4) by fishwiring two 3/8" carriage bolts (#8) into the square holes on the engine side, then secure with 3/8" serrated-flange nuts (#10). Repeat the same process on the passenger side using the passenger-side tow bar base plate (#2) and the shorter support bracket (#3). Do not fully tighten these bolts until Step 7.
