This custom tow bar base plate fits select years of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator (see application info to verify fitment). It features an OE style design to fully integrate with the front of the vehicle and maintain a factory look. This Ford / Lincoln tow bar baseplate is constructed from high-quality steel and is precisely welded for a perfect fit. It is physically tested for absolute safety and peace of mind while dinghy towing. It also features a unique co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and highly durable powder coat to protect against the outdoor elements. This base plate for towing comes with attachment tabs, safety cables and installation hardware.

The kit includes: one driver-side tow bar base plate, one passenger-side tow bar base plate, two tow bar mounting tabs, two safety cables (7,500 lbs. each), ten square-hole spacers (1/4" × 1" × 3"), ten carriage bolts (1/2"-13 × 2", grade 8), ten flange nuts (1/2"-13, grade 8), ten fishwires (1/2"), two quick links (1/2"), and two socket plugs. The safety cables, quick links and socket plugs are not shown in the product photo.
Required tools are: torque wrench, drill, 1/2" drill bit, 3/4" socket, 5.5mm socket, 10mm socket, 15mm socket, 5.5mm socket, large clamp, flat head screwdriver, and tape measure. Safety glasses should be worn at all times during installation.
Yes. The installation requires temporary bumper removal. For Lincoln Navigator, you must also disconnect a fluid line near the headlight on the passenger side and disconnect the electrical harness from the front bumper cover. For Ford Expedition, you must disconnect the electrical harness from the driver side of the front bumper cover. The bumper is reinstalled after the base plates are secured.
Yes. The tow hooks must be removed before installing the base plates. Use a 15mm socket to remove two bolts from each tow hook. The tow hooks should be returned to the vehicle owner after removal.
Yes. Drilling is required. In Step 14, you must use the base plate as a template to drill two side holes with a 1/2" drill bit on each side of the vehicle (four holes total). Three holes in the bottom of the frame rail are pre-existing and do not require drilling. The modifications are permanent.
Yes. Trimming is required. For Ford Expedition models, trim the face area of the plastic around the tow hook recess on both sides to allow room for the socket and safety cable loop. For Lincoln Navigator models, measure 3/4" from the vertical lip at the bottom of the bumper cover and 1/4" from the bumper, mark a 5-1/2" wide by 2-1/4" tall rectangle on each side, and trim this area away. Take care when cutting plastic as injury may occur if done improperly.
All 1/2" flange nuts and carriage bolts must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This applies to all ten bolts securing the base plates to the frame. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening. Proper torque is essential to help prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
For Lincoln Navigator: disconnect the fluid line by squeezing and pulling apart near the headlight on the passenger side, and disconnect the electrical harness from the front bumper cover. For Ford Expedition: disconnect the electrical harness from the driver side of the front bumper cover. These must be reconnected after the base plates are installed and the bumper is reinstalled.
Yes. Two permanent safety cables (7,500 lbs. each) are included and must be installed. The cables must be connected to the base plate and the vehicle frame, with one cable on each side of the vehicle. Each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle. The cables must not pinch or interfere with hoses, wiring or other components. Safety cables are not a replacement for safety chains connecting the tow vehicle to the towed vehicle.
Each safety cable is rated for 7,500 lbs. Two cables are included, one for each side of the vehicle. Each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Review the owner's manual for your towed vehicle and towing vehicle for specific recommendations, capacities and requirements.
After installation, periodically check the condition of all towing equipment. Ensure all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Do not tow with worn or damaged parts. Make sure the safety cables do not pinch or interfere with any hoses, wiring or other components.

Yes. If equipped, CURT recommends removing the base plate attachment tabs when not in use. When ready to tow, install the tow bar mounting tabs. When not towing, insert the socket plugs into the ends of the tow bar base plates.
