A fishwire is a tool used to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. For this installation, you can use a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string. Insert the fishwire through the blind hole between the bumper cover and vehicle body, locate it on the other side, use tape to secure the harness to the fishwire, and pull it back up. If the harness gets hung up, push back down, wiggle it around or twist the wire to loosen it.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2. Remove the taillight trim panels and taillights from both sides (using T-27 Torx bit). 3. Route fishwire down between the bumper cover and vehicle body on both sides. 4. Attach the green wire housing harness to the fishwire and pull up to the taillight cavity on the passenger side; connect to factory wiring and set taillight in cavity (do not fully install). 5. Route the yellow wire housing harness above the bumper mount along the bumper to the driver side and repeat step 4. 6. Locate or drill a grounding point and secure the white ground wire. 7. Reinstall taillights and tighten zip ties. 8. Route the 4-flat connector along the sub frame, passenger side, above rear suspension and driveline, between fuel tank and frame to the rear of the front tire. 9. Pull the 4-flat up between inner and outer fender, under the weather strip around the back of the engine compartment to the front. 10. Secure excess wire with zip ties, reinstall all removed items, reconnect the battery, and install the 4-flat dust cover.
Open the rear hatch and locate the taillight trim panel. Use a panel trim removal tool to remove the push fastener and remove the taillight cover. Using a T-27 Torx bit, remove the single screw securing the taillight. Remove the taillight at a 45° angle out from the vehicle—the alignment tabs will only allow removal in this direction. Locate and separate the vehicle taillight wiring connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat on the other side.
The custom wiring harness connectors are similar to your factory taillight connectors. After routing the harness up through the fishwire to the taillight cavity, attach the custom wiring harness to the vehicle factory wiring. Set the taillight inside the taillight cavity but do not fully install it at this time. Complete this on both the passenger side (green wire housing) and driver side (yellow wire housing) before reinstalling the taillights.
Route the housing with the yellow wire above the bumper mount and along the bumper to the driver side. Zip tie as needed along the bumper. Route above the driver-side bumper mount. Then repeat the fishwire process (Step 5) to pull this harness up to the taillight cavity, connect it to the factory wiring, and set the taillight in the cavity without fully installing it.
You need to locate a grounding point on the vehicle frame. If an existing screw or bolt is available, use that. If not, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. The area should be free from rust, dirt and paint—use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint.

Route the 4-flat along the sub frame on the passenger side and above the rear suspension and driveline. Once you reach the rear of the fuel tank, route between the tank and frame to the rear of the front tire. Then pull the 4-flat up between the inner and outer fender, route under the weather strip around the back of the engine compartment to the front of the vehicle.
Secure any excess wire so that it is not drooping or dangling, but not so tight that it causes unnecessary strain to the wire, which could lead to breakage over time. Use zip ties to fasten excess wire to solid spots along the vehicle frame. After removing slack from the 4-flat wire, tighten any zip ties and add as needed.
Once the harness is installed, verify that it is functioning by attaching the 4-flat to any vehicle with functioning trailer lights. The taillights on the tow vehicle should function along with the taillights on the towing vehicle. You can also use a test light to check for proper function.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. If the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect it. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the harness by attaching the 4-flat to a vehicle with functioning trailer lights to verify the taillights work on both vehicles.
