The manual lists weight distributing hitch ratings as N/A, indicating this is a weight carrying hitch only. The 36110 is not compatible with weight distributing systems.
The supplied pullwires (part #5481) are used to guide the carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame access hole. After installing the carriage bolts and spacers into the frame, leave the pullwires attached. Raise the hitch into position and guide the pullwire ends through the holes in the hitch bracket to align the holes. Once aligned, remove the pullwires before installing the conical washers and nuts.
The conical washers must be installed with the teeth side facing toward the hitch bracket. This orientation is critical for proper fastener engagement and load distribution.
Kinking the pullwire keeps the spacer independent of the bolt during installation. This prevents the spacer from sliding along the bolt shaft and ensures it remains in the correct position as you guide the assembly through the frame access hole.
The installation sequence is: (1) Lower the vehicle exhaust by removing the rearmost driver and passenger side rubber hangers; (2) Install the carriage bolts and spacers into the vehicle frame through the access hole using pullwires; (3) Raise the hitch into position and align the bracket holes with the carriage bolts; (4) Remove pullwires and install conical washers (teeth toward hitch) and hex nuts; (5) Tighten all fasteners to 50 Ft.Lb. If the carriage bolts are difficult to guide through the frame access hole, ensure that the pullwires are properly attached and that you are kinking the pullwire to keep the spacer independent of the bolt. The spacer should not slide along the bolt shaft. Additionally, ensure that the exhaust has been fully lowered and that the access hole is clear of any obstructions. If difficulty persists, verify that you are using the correct access hole as shown in Figure 2.
If the bracket holes do not align with the carriage bolts, verify that the carriage bolts and spacers are fully inserted through the frame access hole and that the pullwires are properly guiding them. Ensure that the hitch is being raised straight up into position without tilting. Check that the spacers are maintaining proper spacing and are not bent or damaged. If misalignment persists, verify that you are using the correct fastener kit (36110F) and that all components are undamaged.
If fasteners become loose, immediately stop towing and re-tighten all fasteners to 50 Ft.Lb. (68 N·M) using a torque wrench. Verify that the conical washers are properly installed with the teeth side facing the hitch bracket, as improper washer orientation can cause fasteners to loosen. Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners remain tight. If fasteners repeatedly loosen, the hitch may be damaged and should be removed and replaced.
