Draw-Tite has designed custom-fit trailer hitches since 1946 and is one of North America's most widely fitted hitch brands. Receiver hitches use solid all-welded construction and low-profile designs that follow modern vehicle contours, install with minimal bumper cutting or drilling, meet or exceed V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards, and carry a limited lifetime warranty.
Draw-Tite has been leading custom-fit trailer hitch design and engineering since its founding in 1946, and it remains one of the most widely fitted hitch brands in North America. The company's stated approach is straightforward: every hitch is tested rigorously so that it performs well beyond published industry standards, a philosophy it markets as Tested Tough. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Fulton, Bulldog, Tekonsha, Bargman and Wesbar.
Custom fit is the defining characteristic. Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. Low-profile designs follow the rear contours and aerodynamic styling of modern vehicles, which matters more than it once did now that rear fascias are shaped and sensor-equipped. Construction is solid all-welded steel for maximum strength, and every hitch meets or exceeds V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards and is backed by a nationwide limited lifetime warranty.
The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. Each is custom designed per make and model for a no-drill installation that does not compromise ground clearance, rated for up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. Matching plug-and-play wiring completes the towing system.

Equip your vehicle for towing and hitch-mounted accessories with a dependable CURT 2" trailer hitch. Designed for a vehicle-specific fit, CURT receiver hitches provide a strong and secure connection point for towing trailers, carrying bikes, transporting cargo and using other compatible 2-inch hitch accessories.
Our selection of CURT 2-inch receiver hitches includes options for trucks, SUVs, crossovers, vans and passenger vehicles. Each hitch is engineered to match specific vehicle mounting points, helping provide a clean installation and dependable performance. Depending on the vehicle application, available options may include Class 3, Class 4 and heavy-duty receiver hitches with different gross trailer weight and tongue weight capacities.
A 2" x 2" receiver opening is one of the most common hitch sizes and works with a wide range of towing accessories, including ball mounts, bike racks, cargo carriers, hitch steps and tow hooks. When towing a trailer, you may also need a properly rated trailer ball, hitch pin, wiring harness, brake controller or weight distribution system.
CURT trailer hitches feature a durable black finish designed to help protect against rust, scratches and exposure to road conditions. Many models install using existing holes in the vehicle frame, although drilling, trimming or temporary removal of vehicle components may be required for certain applications.
Use our vehicle fitment tools to find the correct CURT 2" trailer hitch for your year, make and model. Always compare the hitch rating with your vehicle’s towing capacity and the ratings of every component in your towing setup. The maximum towing capacity is determined by the lowest-rated component.
Shop CURT 2-inch trailer hitches at TowUniverse for vehicle-specific fitment, trusted towing performance and access to the accessories needed to complete your towing setup.

Yes, part numbers 76636, 84636, and CQT76636 are designed for the Subaru Ascent. However, the manual states that specific application years, sub-models, and trim levels vary. Visit the Horizon Global website for the most up-to-date information regarding which model years and trim levels are compatible with this hitch.
The maximum gross trailer weight (GTW) is 5000 lb (2267 kg) and the maximum tongue weight is 500 lb (226 kg). This hitch is a weight-carrying type only; weight-distributing capacity is not applicable. However, the lowest capacity of any component in your towing system—including your vehicle's manufacturer-recommended capacity, trailer hitch, and trailer—determines the maximum load you can safely tow.
Required tools include: ratchet, torque wrench, sockets (10 mm, 17 mm, 11/16"), socket extension, flat-head screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, plastic trim tools, and panel removal tool. Safety glasses are mandatory during installation.
Yes. The first installation step is to lower the spare tire using the spare tire winch inside the vehicle and set it aside for reinstallation after the hitch is installed.
Yes. The bumper must be removed to access the bumper studs where the hitch attaches. The bumper is secured by 3 M10 bolts and 1 M10 flange nut on each side, removed with a 17 mm socket. The factory nuts are saved for reattachment, and the bumper and bolts are returned to the vehicle owner after installation.
Yes. The fascia must be removed to access the bumper and frame rails. Removal involves removing 6 plastic expanding fasteners from the bottom, 2 screws from each wheel well, 1 plastic expanding fastener under each splash guard, 1 plastic push rivet from each wheel well, and 1 screw from near the taillight (10 mm socket). Any wires attached to the fascia must be unplugged. The fascia is reinstalled after the hitch is torqued in place.
All M10 fasteners must be tightened to 42 lb-ft (57 N·m) using a torque wrench. Proper torque is essential to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
All 7/16" fasteners must be tightened to 50 lb-ft (68 N·m) using a torque wrench. This includes the carriage bolts and nuts that attach through the frame rails.
The 76636F fastener kit includes: 6 M10 x 1.25 x 30 mm Class 8.8 bolts, 8 conical washers (7/16"), 2 cable ties, 2 carriage bolts (7/16"-14 x 1.75 GR5), 2 hex nuts (7/16"-14), 2 spacers (1/4" x 7/8" x 3"), and 2 wireform 7/16" pieces (for fishing bolts through frame rails).
Raise the hitch into position over the bumper studs and install the factory M10 nuts that were removed from the bumper. These factory nuts secure the hitch to the existing studs.
Fish the 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers through the end of the frame rail and through the attachment hole on the inside of the frame rail using the supplied wireform (pull wire). Remove the pull wire and loosely install the conical washers and 7/16" nuts on both sides. The fasteners are then torqued to final specification in step 5.
The conical washers must be installed with the teeth side facing toward the hitch. This is shown in Figure 1 of the manual.
The two 1/4" x 7/8" x 3" spacers are used when fishing the 7/16" carriage bolts through the frame rails. They are threaded onto the bolts along with the bolts to maintain proper spacing during installation. The manual notes to kink the pull wire to keep the spacer independent of the bolt.
Thread locker is optional but recommended. The manual states: "For additional security, thread locker can be used on all fasteners."
After installing the hitch, attach the wire harnesses to the top of the hitch brackets and secure them in place with zip ties (cable ties). Two cable ties are included in the fastener kit.
No. The manual specifies that fasteners must be torqued to specification (step 5) before the fascia is reinstalled (step 6). This ensures proper access and prevents damage to the fascia during torquing.
The bumper and bolts are returned to the vehicle owner after the hitch is installed. The factory M10 nuts removed from the bumper are saved and reused to attach the hitch to the bumper studs.
After installation, verify that all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. The manual recommends checking the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners remain tight and the hitch is securely mounted to the vehicle. This is especially important before towing.
The manual recommends regularly checking that all fasteners are tight and the hitch is securely mounted to the vehicle. Regular inspection is necessary to ensure hitch towing capacity and longevity of the product.
A hitch or ball that has been damaged must be removed and replaced. Do not continue to use a damaged hitch.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes.
No. The manual explicitly states: "Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch."
No. The manual clearly states: "DO NOT cut, weld, or modify this trailer hitch." Doing so will void the warranty and may compromise the structural integrity and safety of the hitch.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity or the hitch towing capacities (5000 lb GTW, 500 lb tongue weight). The lowest capacity of any component in your towing system—including your vehicle, hitch, trailer, and trailer equipment—determines the maximum load you can safely tow. Exceeding capacity could result in engine, transmission, or structural damage, loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover, and personal injury.
No. The 76636 is a weight-carrying hitch only. Weight-distributing capacity is listed as N/A. If you need a weight-distributing hitch, you will need a different product.
The 76636 hitch includes a Limited Lifetime Warranty from Horizon Global. The warranty covers material defects in material and workmanship, excluding ordinary wear and tear. The warranty is valid only if the product is installed, maintained, and used according to the instructions, and is not caused by misuse, neglect, improper installation, or accident. To make a warranty claim, contact Horizon Global at 127 Public Square Suite 5300, Cleveland, OH 44114, or call 800-632-3290. You must provide the product and purchase receipt.
The manual states that the vehicle fascia has a removable panel for hitch usage and that the panel may be replaced when the hitch is not in use. However, the manual does not specify whether this panel is included with the hitch or is a separate vehicle component.
Yes, the 76636 is designed for the Subaru Ascent, but specific model years and trim levels vary. Check the Horizon Global website for your exact year and trim.
Maximum gross trailer weight is 5000 lb (2267 kg) and maximum tongue weight is 500 lb (226 kg). Your vehicle's manufacturer capacity may be lower; use the lowest capacity in your system.
You need a ratchet, torque wrench, sockets (10 mm, 17 mm, 11/16"), socket extension, flat-head and Phillips screwdrivers, plastic trim tools, panel removal tool, and safety glasses.
Yes. Both the bumper and fascia must be removed to access the mounting points. The spare tire must also be lowered.
M10 fasteners: 42 lb-ft (57 N·m). 7/16" fasteners: 50 lb-ft (68 N·m). Use a torque wrench and tighten all fasteners before reinstalling the fascia.
The teeth side of the conical washers must face toward the hitch.
Verify that all fasteners have been torqued to the correct specification: M10 fasteners to 42 lb-ft (57 N·m) and 7/16" fasteners to 50 lb-ft (68 N·m). Use a torque wrench to recheck all fasteners. If fasteners are loose, retorque them to specification. The manual emphasizes that proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Ensure that the conical washers are installed with the teeth side facing toward the hitch, not away from it. The teeth must contact the hitch surface. If the washers are reversed, remove them, flip them over, and reinstall them correctly before torquing.
The manual provides a wireform (pull wire) specifically for this purpose. Thread the wireform through the frame rail first, then attach the carriage bolt and spacer to the wireform and pull it through. The manual notes to kink the pull wire to keep the spacer independent of the bolt, which may help prevent binding.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
