Follow these steps in order: (1) Remove fascia; (2) Remove plastic panel; (3) Lower exhaust; (4) Lower heat shield; (5) Remove bumper beam; (6) Reinstall heat shield; (7) Install hitch loosely; (8) Tighten fasteners to 115 Lb-Ft; (9) Reinstall plastic panel; (10) Reinstall fascia. Do not skip or reorder steps, as some components must be removed to access hitch mounting points.
Open the liftgate. Remove plastic covers and rivets next to each taillight. Remove taillight screws and unplug electrical connectors. Remove bolts at the top of the fascia near taillights (10 mm socket, each side). Remove the cover along the liftgate opening and plastic push rivets. Remove (3) bolts attaching fascia to underbody near center (10 mm socket). Remove hitch access panel and (2) Phillips screws. Remove (8) 14 mm bolts from the rearmost face of the bumper beam using a 21 mm socket. Save these (8) bolts—they are reused to attach the hitch to the frame rail (4 bolts each side). Also remove (3) M14 bolts from the passenger side frame rail using an 18 mm socket and return these bolts and the bumper beam to the customer.
