The ball mount must have a maximum length of 10.5" (distance from center of ball hole to center of pin hole) and a minimum rise of 0.75" (distance from top of shank to top of ball platform). Select a ball mount that meets these specifications for proper fitment and safety.
Two quick-link options are available (sold separately): #49131 (5/16"), Max GTW 3,500 lb, or #44133 (3/8"), Max GTW 3,500 lb. Both are rated for the maximum gross trailer weight of the hitch.
1. Use the key to unlock the blue knob. 2. Push in the blue knob and rotate it clockwise until you hear a click sound. 3. At this point, you can separate the receiver from the receiver housing. The receiver can then be stored separately when not in use.
Weather covers are installed on the top and bottom of the receiver housing to protect it from the elements. They are included with the hitch and must be installed before attaching the receiver housing to the hitch brackets.
The fishwire method is used to route carriage bolts and spacer blocks through the vehicle frame to the attachment holes. Pull wires are attached to the bolts and blocks, then guided through access holes in the frame. The rearward bolts use 2" long blocks, and the forward bolts use 3" long blocks. The pull wires are left attached until the hitch is raised into position and the bolts are secured with conical washers and hex nuts.
The conical washers must be installed with the teeth side facing toward the hitch. This orientation ensures proper clamping and load distribution when the hex nuts are torqued.
1. Remove underbody panel. 2. Lower exhaust system. 3. Remove heat shield. 4. Remove and relocate key proximity antenna. 5. Route rearward bolts using fishwire method with 2" blocks. 6. Route forward bolts using reverse fishwire method with 3" blocks. 7. Raise hitch into position, passenger side first over muffler. 8. Guide fishwire ends through attachment holes. 9. Install conical washers (teeth toward hitch) and hex nuts. 10. Torque all fasteners to 110 lb-ft (149 N·m). 11. Trim heat shield. 12. Reinstall exhaust hangers. 13. Trim underbody panel and reinstall.
The manual does not specify that the battery must be disconnected. However, you will need to disconnect the wiring to the key proximity antenna during installation and reconnect it after relocation.
The underbody panel must be removed. Depending on the model, this requires removing 9 M8 fasteners, 5 to 8 M10 nuts, and 1 to 2 plastic push-on fasteners (unscrew with a standard screwdriver while pulling down on the panel). The heat shield (2 M10 nuts) and key proximity antenna housing must also be removed. For model years after 2020, the heat shield may be connected to the underbody panel and removed in the same step.
Pry off the 2 rearmost rubber exhaust hangers using exhaust removal pliers or another suitable tool. Spraying the hangers with soapy water makes this easier. Be sure to support the exhaust system to prevent damage during removal and reinstallation.
The key proximity antenna must be removed from its housing and relocated. 1. Disconnect the wiring from the antenna. 2. Remove the antenna from the housing (retain the antenna). 3. Trim or discard the housing box at the bumper support. 4. After the hitch is installed, use the included zip ties to secure the antenna to the relocation bracket. 5. Reconnect the wiring.
Trim the heat shield according to Figure 2 in the manual. After trimming, reinstall the remaining portion of the heat shield. For model years after 2020, if the heat shield cannot be easily separated from the underbody panel due to a metal rivet, do not trim it and return it to the vehicle owner.

Check the hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. The manual emphasizes periodic checking to ensure the hitch remains securely mounted to the vehicle during towing.
If excess sway occurs: 1. Take your foot off the gas pedal. 2. Hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. 3. DO NOT apply your brakes. 4. DO NOT speed up. Maintain control and gradually reduce speed.
Load the trailer heavier in front. This helps maintain stability and control while towing. Do not exceed the maximum tongue weight of 350 lb (159 kg) or the maximum gross trailer weight of 3500 lb (1589 kg).
The 76916 hitch is covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty from Horizon Global. The warranty covers material defects in materials and workmanship, excluding ordinary wear and tear. The warranty is valid only if the product is installed, maintained, and used in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions. Pull wires are used to route the carriage bolts and spacer blocks through the vehicle frame. During steps 5 and 6, leave the pull wires attached to the bolts and blocks. When raising the hitch into position in step 7, guide the fishwire ends through the attachment holes, then remove the pull wires before installing the conical washers and hex nuts. Kink the pull wire to keep the spacer independent of the bolt during routing.
When raising the hitch into position, install the passenger side first over the muffler. This positioning helps guide the hitch into alignment with the frame attachment holes and ensures proper fitment without interference with the exhaust system.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. This protects the vehicle interior and prevents corrosion.
A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Do not attempt to repair a damaged hitch. Contact a professional installer or the manufacturer for replacement.

If the exhaust system becomes damaged during removal or lowering, it must be repaired or replaced before the vehicle is used. Do not reinstall the hitch until the exhaust system is in proper working condition. Damaged exhaust systems can cause performance issues, emissions problems, and safety hazards.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
