To maximize this corrosion resistance, the running boards and brackets are both shielded in a durable black powder coat finish. The running boards also feature hardened plastic end caps that eliminate sharp corners and add a professional touch. All LUVERNE Grip Step wheel-to-wheel steps are designed for vehicle-specific applications. This ensures a custom fit and the easiest possible installation. The running boards mount with vehicle-specific brackets and use pre-existing mounting points to avoid difficult modifications. CURT offers two Grip Step models: 415078 (77.62" extrusion) and 415088 (87.75" extrusion). Both are boards only and require a separate bracket package for mounting. Model 401117 is the Wheel to Wheel Step Brackets designed specifically for 1999 GM Silverado and Sierra pickups.
The 401117 is designed for 1999 GM Silverado and Sierra Regular, Extended, and Crew Cab pickups. If you have a 1500 model pickup, you must also attach bracket item #14 (90 degree, 3 holes) to brackets items #1 and #2 in order to use the load reaction stud.
Models 415078 and 415088 are universal applications. They are boards only and must be paired with a vehicle-specific bracket package. The bracket package instructions determine fitment for your vehicle.
Each step package includes: 2 extrusions (item #1 or #1), 8 support braces (item #2), 4 end caps (item #3), 8 spacer plates (item #4), 16 carriage bolts 5/16-18 x 1" (item #5), 16 flat washers 5/16" (item #6), 16 serrated flange nuts 5/16-18 (item #7), and 8 self-drilling tek screws #8 x 1/2" (item #8). Note: some flange nuts are supplied in the bracket package, not the step package.
The 401117 bracket package includes: front, center, rear inboard and rear outboard cab mounting brackets; 6 rubber cushion washers; 12 flat washers 3/8"; 24 serrated flange nuts 3/8-16; 6 double-ended studs 3/8-16 x 4.50"; 6 bolts 3/8-16 x 1.00"; 2 flat washers .59 ID; 2 optional 90-degree brackets for 1500 models; 2 hex head cap screws 5/16-18 x 1.00"; 2 serrated flange nuts 5/16-18; 2 flat washers 5/16"; 4 flat washers 1/2"; 2 nylock nuts 3/8-16; 2 hex head bolts 3/8-16 x 2.00"; 4 flat washers 3/8"; and 2 spring hanger mounting brackets (inboard and outboard).
Read the complete installation instructions and verify that all required parts listed on the service parts list are on hand before starting installation. For models 415078 and 415088, you must also follow the instructions included with your specific bracket package to mount the brackets to your vehicle.
1. Slide the appropriate number of support braces (item #2) into the channel of the step extrusion (item #1). 2. Slide the end cap (item #3) over the front and rear of each step. 3. Using the supplied #8 x 1/2" self-drilling tek screw (item #8), screw the end cap to the bottom of the step.
1. Set the step on the mounting brackets and slide each support brace over the top of each mounting bracket. 2. Attach the flat spacer plate (item #4) to the bottom of the step, between the support brace and the top of the mounting bracket. 3. Using the supplied 5/16-18 x 1" carriage bolt, washer (item #6), and flange nut (item #7), attach the step assembly, spacer plate, and mounting bracket. 4. Set the step plate in the correct position and tighten all fasteners to 19 LB FT.
1. Assemble load reaction studs and hardware (items #8-11) as specified. 2. Attach load reaction stud assemblies to body mounting brackets. 3. Remove factory front, center, and rear body mount bolts one side at a time. 4. Install front mounting brackets (items #1 and #2) to front cab mount, leaving fasteners finger tight. 5. Install center mounting brackets (items #3 and #4) to center cab mount, leaving fasteners finger tight. 6. Install rear inboard bracket (item #7) to rear cab mount, leaving fasteners finger tight. 7. For Extended and Crew Cab, attach rear outboard brackets (items #5 and #6) to rear inboard bracket. 8. Attach spring hanger mounting brackets (items #22 and #23). 9. Attach step assembly per step assembly instructions. 10. Tighten all body mount bolts and spring hanger bolts per manufacturer specifications.
1. On the short threaded end of the load reaction stud (item #11), install a black 3/8" serrated flange nut (item #10) backwards to the bottom of the thread. 2. Install a black 3/8" flat washer (item #9) and rubber cushion washer (item #8) tight against the serrated flange nut. The end of the stud must be recessed in the rubber washer approximately 3/16". 3. On the long threaded end of the stud, install a black 3/8" serrated flange nut (item #10) backwards to near the bottom of the threads.
Insert the stud from the inboard side of the bracket through the lowest hole in the bent flange that will allow the rubber washer to set firmly against the side wall of the frame. Install a black flange nut (item #10) on the outboard end of the stud, finger tight only.
Attach the rear outboard cab mounting bracket (items #5 and #6) to the rear inboard cab mounting bracket (item #7) using 3/8" black zinc-plated bolts (item #12), washers (item #9), and serrated flange nuts (item #10). The rear outboard bracket must be mounted to the back side of the rear inboard bracket (towards the rear of the vehicle). Use the bottom single hole and top double holes in the rear inboard bracket. Put the bolts through the front side of the bracket so the serrated flange nuts are on the back side to allow clearance for the truck frame. Torque the bolts to 19 LB FT.
Attach the rear outboard cab mounting bracket (items #5 and #6) to the rear inboard cab mounting bracket (item #7) using 3/8" black zinc-plated bolts (item #12), washers (item #9), and serrated flange nuts (item #10). The rear outboard bracket must be mounted to the back side of the rear inboard bracket (towards the rear of the vehicle). Use the bottom single hole and bottom double holes in the rear inboard bracket. Put the bolts through the front side of the bracket so the serrated flange nuts are on the back side to allow clearance for the truck frame. Torque the bolts to 19 LB FT.
1. Loosen the spring hanger bolt just enough so that the inboard spring hanger mounting bracket (item #23) can be slid up behind the flange of the bolt. 2. Position the inboard bracket behind the flange of the spring hanger bolt, with the channel open to the outboard side. 3. Install the outboard spring hanger mounting bracket (item #22) so that its inboard vertical portion fits inside the channel of the inboard bracket, using the 3/8" zinc-plated bolt (item #20), 3/8" washer (item #21), 1/2" washer (item #18), and 3/8" zinc-plated nylock nut (item #19). 4. Do not tighten these bolts until the bracket is attached to the step assembly.
All 5/16" fasteners on the 415078 and 415088 Grip Steps must be torqued to 19 LB FT.
The 3/8" bolts connecting the rear outboard cab mounting brackets to the rear inboard cab mounting brackets must be torqued to 19 LB FT.
Body mount bolts and spring hanger bolts must be tightened per manufacturer specifications. The manual does not provide specific torque values for these fasteners; refer to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
Use caution when removing the body mount bolts on 2010+ GM Silverado/Sierra models due to excessive thread locker in the body mount bolt area. Improper removal can cause damage to the threaded inserts inside the vehicle.
