Do not start installation until you have the correct bracket package and have read its instructions completely.
1. Install step pads on step plates by drilling five 1/8" holes per pad and attaching with TEK screws. 2. Install square head bolts into the designated slots in the bottom of the step plates. 3. Install end caps and tighten nuts to 5 lb ft. 4. Position the step on mounting brackets so square head screws are in the bracket slots and the step is centered front to rear. 5. Install serrated flange nuts on square head screws and tighten to 19 lb ft. For RAM 2500, first attach mounting brackets to the vehicle following the specific bracket instructions.
Yes. You must drill five 1/8" holes in each step plate to attach the step pads using the step pad as a guide. For 2009-2012 RAM trucks without obround holes in the pinchweld, you must also drill two 5/16" holes for each bracket in the pinchweld. For 2014+ RAM trucks with existing obround holes, no drilling of the pinchweld is required.
Tighten the end cap nuts to 5 lb ft.
Install 5/16" serrated flange nuts on the square head screws and tighten to 19 lb ft.
Use the Step Pad Location Guide on page 2 to position the pads for your vehicle. The guide provides specific measurements for Pad A and Pad B locations. Note that these locations are suggestions and may be placed at the purchaser's discretion. For some boxes, mount the box step pad first approximately 1/2" from the end cap, then mount the middle step pad accordingly.
Attach step pads using five 8-18 X 1/2" TEK screws (Item #6) per pad. Drill five 1/8" holes using the step pad as a guide, then insert the TEK screws through the pad into the step plate.
For RAM trucks with threaded inserts: Place the bracket up to the pinchweld with the lower mounting flange to the outside. Align the two rectangular holes of the lower mounting flange with the two obround holes in the pinchweld. Insert two 1/4-20 X 1" carriage bolts through the lower mounting flange and pinchweld. Place a 1/4" flat washer and 1/4-20 flange nut on each bolt and leave finger tight. Insert an M8 X 25mm screw with a 5/16" flat washer through the slots on the upper mounting flange and leave finger tight. Repeat for middle and rear brackets.
Insert the T-bolt weldment (Item #14) into the large obround hole in the rocker panel vertical wall with the nut end first, leaving the threaded stud sticking out. Be careful not to drop the T-bolt inside the rocker panel. Attach the flat plastic bolt retainer (Item #15) to the threaded stud to keep the T-bolt from falling into the rocker panel.
Loosen the bolt that fastens the suspension links to the vehicle. Slide the upper mounting bracket (Item #5 or #6) between the bolt head and the frame bracket. Tighten down the bolt, making sure the upper mounting bracket is level. Then fasten the lower bracket (Item #7) to the upper bracket using a 3/8" bolt, washer, and nut (Items #16, #17, #18) through the two lower holes in the upper bracket, ensuring it sits level to the front brackets.
RAM trucks with threaded inserts in the rocker panel use carriage bolts and flange nuts directly in the pinchweld obround holes. RAM trucks without threaded inserts require T-bolt weldments inserted into the large obround hole in the rocker panel vertical wall, with a plastic bolt retainer attached to prevent the T-bolt from falling inside the rocker panel. Both methods use the same upper mounting flange attachment with M8 X 25mm screws.
Yes. 2009-2012 RAM trucks do not have obround holes in the pinchweld and will require drilling two 5/16" holes for each bracket. To locate the holes, follow the T-bolt installation steps (Step 2.5), then mark the pinchweld for drilling with the bracket in place. Skip to Steps 2.7 and 2.8 for the upper mounting flange attachment.
Position the step on the mounting brackets so that the square head screws (Item #4) are located in the slots of the mounting brackets and the step is centered front to rear on the vehicle. Install 5/16" serrated flange nuts (Item #5) on the square head screws and tighten to 19 lb ft.
Install the step plates and adjust brackets and boards before tightening all the fasteners. Leave fasteners finger tight during initial positioning, then tighten to specification only after the step is properly positioned and centered on the vehicle.
Install the required number of square head bolts into the designated slots in the bottom of the step plates. These bolts will later be positioned in the slots of the mounting brackets when the step is installed.
Install the end caps (Item #3) as shown in Figure 1, tightening the nuts to 5 lb ft.
For the passenger side, the installation is a mirror image of the driver's side. Use Item #2 (front bracket), Item #1 (middle bracket), and Item #4 (rear bracket). This applies to both RAM trucks with and without threaded inserts in the rocker panel.
