Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the N118277 tow harness is designed for the Mitsubishi Outlander. However, your vehicle must have a factory tow harness connector on the driver's side for this product to work. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or contact the manufacturer to confirm your specific model year and trim level are compatible.
The N118277 tow harness is designed for the Mitsubishi Outlander and requires a factory tow harness connector on the driver's side.
You will need: trim panel remover, 12mm socket and ratchet, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, wire crimpers, wire cutters, Phillips head screwdriver, and test probe. Safety glasses are also required.
A 3/32" drill bit is required to drill the grounding hole for the white wire eyelet.

Yes, you must disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery terminal before starting installation.
The factory tow harness connector is located on the driver's side and is taped to the vehicle body harness. You will need to open the rear tailgate and remove access panels, threshold, trunk floor panels and trays on the driver's side to access it.
Insert the tow harness connector into the factory tow harness connector and lock it into place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. All connections must be complete for the tow harness to function properly.
Mount the black box module on a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place to prevent damage or rattling. The exact location is not specified in the manual, so choose a location that is secure, protected from moisture, and away from moving parts or heat sources.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 3/32" hole on the driver's side near the connectors to secure the white wire with an eyelet using the screw provided. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.

The white wire is the ground wire. It must be secured with an eyelet to a suitable grounding point on the driver's side near the connectors using the screw provided. The grounding point should be on a flat surface, and you must drill a 3/32" hole to attach it.
The ring terminal must be connected to the positive side of the battery terminal. This connection is made after locating the black plug under the fuse block behind the driver's side headlight, removing it, and plugging in the grey connector into the factory harness.
The grey connector is plugged into the factory harness after removing the black plug located under the fuse block behind the driver's side headlight. This is part of the electrical connection sequence for the tow harness.
Do not exceed the lower of two ratings: the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the product documentation for the exact amperage specifications.

For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. If the harness still does not function, check that the grey connector is properly plugged into the factory harness and the ring terminal is securely connected to the positive battery terminal. Ensure the white ground wire is properly secured to a suitable grounding point.
Be careful not to damage the locking tabs when inserting the connectors. Ensure that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. If they still will not insert fully, stop and inspect the connectors and locking tabs for damage or debris.
