Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118289 (Part #TK118289) fits 2014-2020 Acura MDX models. The 2020 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118289 (Part #TK118289) fits the following vehicles: 2014-2020 Acura MDX. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118289 (Part #TK118289) Drilling is required for installation. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector part 118289-037 is designed for the Acura MDX. However, the manual does not specify which model years or trim levels are compatible. Contact the manufacturer or your installer to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle year and configuration.
The kit includes the white T-One® T-Connector with black box-module, a 7-way socket, two 20 Amp fuses, two 7.5 Amp fuses, an eyelet and screw for the ground wire, cable ties, and a 7-way connector diagram. A mounting bracket or electrical box for the 7-way connector is not included and must be sourced separately.
You will need: trim panel remover, drill with 3/32" drill bit, 1/4" socket, Phillips head screwdriver, and test probe. You will also need a suitable mounting bracket or electrical box (not included) for the 7-way connector.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. However, it does state that for the initial test after installation, you should reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a professional installer for battery disconnection requirements.
Mount the T-One® T-Connector's black box-module below the rear threshold in the spare tire compartment in an out-of-the-way place where it will not interfere with access or operation.
Route the white T-One® T-Connector end up and behind the trim panel from the cargo area to the junction box area. Plug it into the mating connection in the electric junction box. Ensure all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt, do not damage the locking tabs, and verify that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Yes, you must drill one 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, drill the hole, and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Before drilling, verify what is behind the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
Insert two 20 Amp fuses into fuse positions 2 and 9. Insert two 7.5 Amp fuses into fuse positions 10 and 11. Locate the fuse panel schematic on the inside of the box cover to identify these positions. Do not use fuses that exceed these ratings, as this could result in damage to the vehicle or trailer.
The 7-way connector wire colors and functions are: Green = Tail, Yellow = Back Up, Red = LT/Stop, Black = +12V Battery, White = Ground, Brown = RT/Stop, Blue = Trailer Brakes.
Route the harness containing the 7 wires behind the trim panel along the threshold to the grommet hole near the rear center of the vehicle. Push the wires through the hole to the outside of the vehicle, then push them up to the grommet and seat it. Then route the harness along the inside of the bumper toward the center of the vehicle to the 7-way mounting location. Route carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, or any points that may pinch or break the wire.
Mount the 7-way socket in an accessible location at the center of the vehicle using a bracket or electrical box (not included). The manual does not specify the exact mounting location, so consult your installer or the manufacturer for the recommended position on your Acura MDX.
Reinstall the threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and other items removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires. Secure the remainder of the T-One® T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, avoiding any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly. Test and verify installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. This will allow the system to reinitialize and confirm proper operation.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. The kit includes 20 Amp and 7.5 Amp fuses for specific circuits. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the product documentation for the exact amperage limits.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Before drilling, verify what is behind any surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury. Do not drill into exposed surfaces. Route wires carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, or any points that may pinch or break the wire. Do not pinch or cut wires when reinstalling trim and covers.
Open the vehicle's rear tailgate and remove cargo nets and cargo floor hatch to access the spare tire area. It may be helpful to fold the rear seat forward. You will also need to remove the grommet on the vehicle floor near the rear center of the vehicle (discard it after routing the wires through).
