Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118253 (Part #TK118253) fits 2009-2011 Honda Pilot models. The 2014 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
Yes, the Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118253 (Part #TK118253) is designed to fit the 2009-2011 Honda Pilot.
The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 7-Way, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite HD Module TK118253 (Part #TK118253) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the T-One® T-Connector is designed for both Honda Pilot and Honda Ridgeline. However, the installation procedure differs between the two models. The Pilot uses a convertor box inserted into the grey tow plug in the cargo area storage compartment, while the Ridgeline uses a black box-module inserted into a 12-pin connector located on the right side of the steering shaft.
The kit contents vary by part number. Kit #118253 includes 2 relays and fuses as shown in Photo C. Kit #118491 includes 1 relay and fuses as shown in Photo F. Both kits include cable ties and double-sided tape for mounting the black box-module. The 4-Flat/7-Way tow harness bracket is not included and must be obtained separately.
Two tools are required: a trim panel remover and a test-probe. The trim panel remover is used to open fuse compartments and remove dashboard covers without damage. The test-probe is used to verify the installation after completion.
On the Honda Pilot, the grey tow plug is located inside the storage compartment on the driver's side of the cargo area. To access it, open the rear door, fold the rear seat forward, locate and open the storage compartment, then open the access panel inside the compartment.
On the Honda Ridgeline, the grey tow plug is a 12-pin connector located on the right side of the steering shaft, taped to the vehicle harness. It is accessed after removing the driver's side dashboard cover and lower dashboard cover.
1. Open the rear door and fold the rear seat forward. Locate and open the storage compartment on the driver's side of the cargo area. 2. Open the access panel inside the storage compartment and insert the convertor box into the vehicle's grey tow plug. 3. Locate the fuse panel in the rear cargo area on the driver's side next to the folded rear seats. Open the fuse compartment using a trim panel remover and insert relays and fuses as shown in the manual (Photo C for kit #118253 or Photo F for kit #118491). 4. Locate the vehicle fuse box in the engine compartment on the driver's side and insert fuses into the positions shown in Photo D.
1. Open the driver's side front door and locate the driver's side dashboard cover. Using a trim panel tool, carefully pry it away and set aside. 2. Remove the lower dashboard cover by removing the self-tapping screw and carefully prying it away. Disconnect the connector attached to the cover. 3. On the right side of the steering shaft, locate the vehicle's 12-pin connector taped to the harness. Remove the tape and insert the T-One® black box-module into the grey 12-pin connector, ensuring locking tabs are fully engaged. 4. Mount the black box-module on a flat, out-of-the-way surface using the provided cable tie or double-sided tape. 5. Locate the vehicle relay block to the left of the steering column. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove it to access the open relay cavities. 6. Insert the two relays into the relay block, ensuring they are fully inserted. Replace the relay block. 7. Replace both side and lower covers. 8. Open the hood and locate the fuse box on the driver's side near the firewall. Remove the cover and insert 3 × 20 Amp fuses and 2 × 7.5 Amp fuses into the cavities. Replace the fuse box cover.
Locate the large grey housing under the vehicle bumper on the driver's side. Remove the protective cap carefully, being careful not to break the locking tabs. Ensure the mating surfaces are free of dirt. Plug the towing harness into the grey tow plug, being careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Route the T-Connector harness rearward to the back of the fascia of the bumper. The harness must be routed carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, or any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Secure the remainder of the harness under the bumper with the cable ties provided, being careful to avoid any areas that would cut or pinch the wire.
For Honda Pilot kit #118253: install 2 relays and fuses as shown in Photo C in the rear cargo area fuse panel, and insert fuses into the engine compartment fuse box positions as shown in Photo D. For kit #118491: install 1 relay and fuses as shown in Photo F in the rear cargo area fuse panel, and insert fuses into the engine compartment fuse box positions as shown in Photo D. Refer to the photos in the manual for exact fuse amperage and placement.
For the Honda Ridgeline, insert 2 relays into the relay block located to the left of the steering column. In the engine compartment fuse box on the driver's side near the firewall, insert 3 × 20 Amp fuses and 2 × 7.5 Amp fuses into the cavities.
