Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The Tekonsha Tow Harness, 4-Way Flat, w/Circuit Protected ModuLite Module TK118258 (Part #TK118258) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The T-Connector is a trailer wiring adapter for Hyundai SantaFe vehicles. It connects to the vehicle's existing trailer input harness and converts the connection to a 4-Flat connector, allowing you to connect a trailer's lighting system to the vehicle's electrical system. The product includes a black converter box and a 4-Flat harness with cable ties for routing and securing the wiring.
Yes, the T-Connector 118258-037 is designed for Hyundai SantaFe vehicles. The manual does not specify which model years or trim levels are compatible, so contact the manufacturer or your installer to confirm your specific vehicle's compatibility before purchasing.
You will need: a trim panel remover, a 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a test-probe. These tools are required to remove interior trim panels, access the vehicle's trailer harness, and test the installation.
The T-Connector package includes: the T-Connector harness with locking connectors, a black converter box, a 4-Flat harness, cable ties for securing the wiring, and double-sided tape for mounting the converter box. A bracket or electrical box to mount the 4-Flat end is not included and must be purchased separately.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. Contact the manufacturer or a qualified installer for guidance on this safety step before beginning work.
On the driver's side, you must remove: access panels, the threshold, trunk floor panels, and trays. You will also need to partially remove the lower interior trim panels on the driver's side only. Several trim panel fasteners must be removed, and you must remove one screw in the threshold plate area and two 10mm bolts to access behind the trim panel. Be careful not to damage clips or parts during removal.
Lowering the spare tire is necessary to gain access to the vehicle's wiring, which is located behind the rear tire on the driver's side. This step must be completed before you can locate and access the vehicle's trailer input harness connectors.
After removing protective caps from the vehicle's trailer input harness connectors and ensuring all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt, insert the T-Connector harness into the vehicle's Tow-Plug harness and lock it into place. Be careful not to damage the locking tabs and ensure that connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly.
Route the 4-Flat harness out of the vehicle through the hole exposed when you push the grommet and connectors into the vehicle. Continue routing the harness up to the grommet and seat the grommet in the opening. Then route the 4-Flat harness underneath and to the center of the vehicle. Route the wire carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any other points that may pinch or break the wire. Make sure to route the 4-Flat harness OVER the bumper brace to prevent damage.
On the driver's side, locate a flat surface in an out-of-the-way place and mount the T-Connector's black converter box using the double-sided tape provided. The location should not interfere with vehicle operation or access. Secure the remainder of the T-Connector harness with the cable ties provided to prevent damage or rattling, being careful to avoid any areas that would pinch, cut, or melt the wire.
Mount the 4-Flat end in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box. The manual does not specify the exact location, but it must be accessible for connecting your trailer. A bracket or electrical box is not included with the T-Connector and must be purchased separately.
After routing the 4-Flat harness and securing all wiring, reposition the access panels, trays, and trunk floor panels, and reattach the threshold. Ensure all trim panels are fully seated and all fasteners are reinstalled.
Wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Be careful not to damage vehicle clips, locking tabs, or parts when removing and reinstalling trim panels. Route wiring carefully to avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank, and any points that may pinch or break the wire. Avoid areas where the wire could be cut or melted.
Do not exceed the lower of your vehicle manufacturer's rating or the following limits: maximum 2.1 amps per stop/turn light (1 per side), and maximum 5.6 amps for tail lights. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and instruction sheet for additional information about your vehicle's specific towing rating.
All connections must be complete for the T-Connector to function properly. Test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer once installed. For the initial test, reset the vehicle's electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. Use a test-probe to verify that all connections are working correctly.
You need: trim panel remover, 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench, Phillips head screwdriver, and test-probe.
No. A bracket or electrical box to mount the 4-Flat end is not included and must be purchased separately.
Yes. On the driver's side, you must remove access panels, the threshold, trunk floor panels, trays, and partially remove lower interior trim panels. You will also remove one screw and two 10mm bolts to access the trailer harness.
The black converter box is mounted on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Mount it on a flat, out-of-the-way surface.
