UWS crossover truck tool boxes are the tried-and-true way of keeping your tools organized, on-hand and fully secure no matter where you and your truck roam. Each UWS tool box is built from extra-thick aluminum welded into a single-piece tub. This provides the tool box with reliable strength and helps keep the interior sealed off from the elements. Aluminum construction also makes the box highly resistant to corrosion for long-lasting use. To add even more strength to the crossover truck tool box, the lid features our patented RigidCore foam-filled design. Layered between two sheets of aluminum, this core greatly increases the structural integrity of the lid to prevent bending and warping and to ensure smooth opening and closing. The lid is able to open to a full 90 degrees, providing better access to tools, equipment and other stored items. It also features self-opening struts to make it easy to open the box when your hands are full. This particular truck tool box features a low profile, meaning the lid is built lower than our standard lid. This provides a better view out the rear cab window and additional clearance for other items in the truck bed, if needed. To keep out moisture, dirt and even insects, the lid is also fitted with a MicroSeal gasket that seals off the inside of the tool box from the outside elements. Yes, clearance between the open lid and the top and back of the cab must be verified during installation. In Step 1, open the tool box lid and ensure there is adequate clearance before finalizing the installation. If clearance is insufficient, the tool box may not be suitable for your truck configuration.
You will need a ratchet, socket set, and tape measure. These are the only tools listed as required for installation.
Before drilling, check under your vehicle to ensure the drill location does not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake or fuel fluid lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks, or other components. Take precaution that all fasteners near the fuel tank do not create the possibility of fuel tank puncture or other damage during a collision.
Place the tool box in the truck bed with the lid open and check clearance with the cab. Attach the adhesive side of the rail pads to the underside of the tool box ends. Place the tool box with the adhered rail pads on top of the truck bed rails. Use a tape measure to ensure the tool box is centered in the truck bed. Verify clearance between the open lid and the top and back of the cab before proceeding.
Place a J-hook under the lip of the bed rail and insert the threaded end up through the slot. Use only one hole and J-hook assembly on each side. Attach with a washer and nut, and snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at this stage. Repeat on the other side. After re-measuring to ensure the tool box is centered and lid clearance is adequate, fully tighten all hardware.
According to the torque specifications table, a 1/4" bolt should be torqued to 3 ft-lbs. However, the manual notes that these are general guidelines. If you purchase replacement hardware, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware.
