Place the rear mounting rail on the bed and measure from the rear edge of the bed (not the tailgate). Position the rail at the distance shown in Figure A1 (27-15/16" for short beds less than 8 feet, or 30-15/16" for long beds of 8 feet). Center the rail side-to-side by measuring the distance from each side of the rail to the bed edges; both measurements should be equal.
U-shaped spacers function as space fillers between the mounting rails and the kit attachment hardware to account for the corrugation of the truck bed. Always place a U-shaped spacer in the gap either above the bed (between the mounting rail and the bed) or below the bed (between the bed and the side plates). Failure to use U-shaped spacers will result in property damage when hardware is tightened.
Attach a 1/2" x 2" carriage bolt to the end of a fish wire. Pass the fish wire through one hole of a locking strap, then insert the straight end into the large clearance hole on the inside of the frame (top hole). Pass the fish wire through the frame and out the smaller hole on the outside where the carriage bolt will install. Push the locking strap into the frame. Pull the fish wire until the carriage bolt threads pass through the hole. Maneuver the bolt until its square shank sits inside the square hole in the locking strap. Remove the fish wire while holding the bolt, then install a bolt retainer and tighten until snug against the frame. Repeat for the bottom hole by twisting the top carriage bolt to align the locking strap's bottom hole with the lower frame hole.
Yes. Push the side plates against the bottom of the bed and hand tighten the hardware to hold them in position. Look up through the oval slots in the side plate flanges to find the previously drilled 1/8" pilot holes. The pilot holes must be aligned front to back in the center of the slots. If they are not centered, drill new pilot holes that are better centered in the slots.
Place the forward mounting rail in the truck bed in front of the rear mounting rail. Attach the Patriot 5th wheel or slider base to the forward rail attachment points, then carefully lower the base until its pin tabs pass through the attachment points on the rear mounting rail. The base should rest flat against the top of the rails. Before drilling, pull the RV base toward the rear of the truck and push the forward rail toward the cab to correctly space the mounting rails.
Without overload brackets: locate two front side plates, four 1/2" lock washers, and four 1/2" finish nuts. Pass the top flange over the frame, pass the holes over the carriage bolts, and secure with lock washers and nuts. With overload brackets: locate two front side plates and four 12mm x 80mm flange head bolts. Pass the top flange over the frame, align the holes in the brackets with the holes in the overload bracket still attached to the frame, and install the 12mm flange head bolts. In both cases, hand tighten only until final torque.
No. You do not remove the overload brackets. If your truck has overload brackets, you must remove only the 16mm bolts attaching the rear overload bracket (including nuts inside the frame), then install the rear side plates over the brackets. For the front side plates, align the holes in the brackets with the holes in the overload bracket and install 12mm x 80mm flange head bolts.
Torque all 1/2" nuts and cap screws in the mounting rails to 80 ft. lbs. Torque all 1/2" nuts in the side plates to 80 ft. lbs. If your truck has overload brackets, torque the 12mm bolts to 96 ft. lbs. Use a torque wrench for all final tightening.
The kit includes 1/2" x 2" carriage bolts. Ten are used for the mounting rails (five for the rear rail and five for the forward rail), and four are used for the side plate hardware installation.

Bolt Bag #2 contains 10 U-shaped spacers and 10 offset rectangle washers.
