Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The attachment tab height is 22 inches and the attachment tab width is 30 inches.
Required tools include: flat screwdriver, utility knife, torque wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, 1/2" drill bit, 10MM socket, 13MM socket, 15MM socket, 18MM socket, 18MM wrench, and T15 Torx. You will also need Loctite Red for all bolt threads.
Yes. Drilling is required in multiple locations. You must drill out the hole on the bottom of the tow hook housing on both sides using a 1/2" drill bit (Step 13), and drill out the back outside hole using the baseplate as a template on both sides (Step 16). You may also need to ream out side holes with a 1/2" drill bit as needed.
Yes. A reciprocating saw is required to trim the back of the bumper around each tow hook opening to allow clearance for the baseplate (Step 18). You must also cut the bottom right of center rib on the grille to allow clearance for the electrical rods (Step 19). After cutting, use good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting.
The following components must be removed and set aside for reinstallation: fascia cover, grille, bumper, and skid plate. The tow hooks must be removed but will not be reinstalled. The plastic shroud above the bumper will also be removed and not reinstalled. Place all removed components on a flat, sturdy surface.
1. Using a T15 Torx, remove two bolts from the handle on the top edge of the fascia. 2. Remove ten push pins from along the top of the fascia cover. 3. Using a 7MM socket, remove four bolts (two on each side) from the top of the fascia. 4. Remove the grille by pulling outward on top corners to release push pins, then pull outward on bottom corners, then pull upward and outward. 5. As the grille is removed, unplug three electrical connections on the passenger side and one on the driver side (white), and unplug one hose (gray) on the driver side.
The baseplate is slid onto the bracket below the tow hook housing. One 1/2" x 5" bolt with hardware is started into the back hole on the baseplate, with one washer on each side of the baseplate and two to three washers between the bracket and baseplate. A nylon lock nut is started but left loose. Then the baseplate is rotated upward and a 1/2" bolt with lock washer, washer, and whiz nut is installed into the bottom hole. After drilling the back outside hole using the baseplate as a template, four 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolts with washers, lock washers, and whiz nuts are installed and tightened. This process is done on both sides of the vehicle.
1/2" Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 78 foot-pounds. All bolts must have Loctite Red applied to the threads before tightening to the appropriate torque specification.
When removing the grille, unplug three electrical connections on the passenger side and one electrical connection on the driver side (white). When removing the bumper, unplug the electrical connection on the passenger side. Additionally, three push pins on the driver side attached to the loom will be reinstalled later. Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX1757 includes two Class IV Safety Cables (part 226-0049) and two 1/2" Quicklinks (part 229-0512). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. If electrical rods were bent slightly together to reinstall the grille, they may need to be bent back to install the electrical plug.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use. Blue Ox offers factory service for a nominal fee to service your towing system and ensure it is in proper working condition.
No. If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The hardware kit includes: 10 pieces of 1/2"-13 Whiz Nuts with 10" wire, 1 BX1757 Baseplate (driver side), 1 BX1758 Baseplate (passenger side), 1 electrical mounting bracket, 2 attachment tab assemblies with holes, 1 piece of 1/4"-20 x 3/4" hex head bolt (Grade 5), 10 pieces of 1/2"-13 x 1-1/2" hex head bolts (Grade 5), 2 pieces of 1/2"-13 x 1" hex head bolts (Grade 5), 2 pieces of #10-32 1/2" round slotted head screws, 2 pieces of 1/2"-13 x 5" hex head bolts (Grade 5), 2 pieces of #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws, 2 pieces of #10-32 hex nuts, 4 pieces of 1/2"-13 hex nylon insert lock nuts, 1 piece of 1/4"-20 hex nylon nut, 22 pieces of 1/2" flat washers, 10 pieces of 1/2" lock washers, 2 pieces of #10 lock washers, 1 electrical bracket, 2 Class IV safety cables, 2 pieces of 1/2" Quicklinks, and 2 black cap plug receivers.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow these requirements will void the manufacturer's warranty.

Yes, the BX1757 is designed for 2022-2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 with Adaptive Cruise Control, EcoBoost, and Bottom Shutters. Contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 if your vehicle front looks different.
Yes. You must drill out the tow hook housing holes and back outside holes using a 1/2" drill bit on both sides. Trimming the bumper and grille with a reciprocating saw is also required.
Required tools: torque wrench, drill with 1/2" bit, reciprocating saw, T15 Torx, 10MM/13MM/15MM/18MM sockets, 18MM wrench, flat screwdriver, utility knife, and Loctite Red.
Torque 1/2" Grade 5 bolts to 78 foot-pounds. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads before tightening.
Yes. Two Class IV Safety Cables and two 1/2" Quicklinks are included. Cables must be connected from the baseplate to the vehicle frame and are strongly recommended for towing.
Remove and set aside: fascia cover, grille, bumper, and skid plate. Remove tow hooks (not reinstalled) and plastic shroud above bumper (not reinstalled).
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Check your vehicle owner's manual for towing specifications.
Inspect for cracked welds, missing parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to specification. Remove attachment tabs when not in use.
If the grille cannot be reinstalled, you may need to bend the electrical rods slightly together. After the grille is installed, you may need to bend them back to install the electrical plug. If this does not resolve the issue, verify that the bottom right of center rib on the grille was properly cut in Step 19 to allow clearance for the electrical rods.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. Verify that all three electrical connections on the passenger side and one on the driver side (white) are properly reconnected when reinstalling the grille. Check that the electrical connection on the passenger side of the bumper is properly reconnected. If electrical rods were bent to reinstall the grille, they may need to be bent back to properly install the electrical plug.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. You may need to ream out the side holes with a 1/2" drill bit as needed to achieve proper fit. If significant fitting issues persist, contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051.
