Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.

Yes, the BX1512 is designed specifically for 2006-11 Buick Lucerne vehicles. However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments such as filing holes, bending electrical rods or bending end plates may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances.
No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX1512, the RangeFinderII and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used with this baseplate.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX1512 baseplate. Only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters are compatible. All other adapters are not supported.

Required tools are: 3/4" socket/wrench, 10mm socket, 13mm socket, 15mm socket, 13/32" drill bit, reciprocating saw, tape measure, utility knife, and Loctite RED. When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length.
The radiator cover, fascia, belly pan, and metal bumper must be removed for installation. The fascia support is trimmed. Bumper bracket bolts are not reinstalled. All removed pushpins and bolts should be set aside for reinstallation after baseplate installation is complete.
Yes, drilling is required. Using the 13/32" drill bit, you must drill two holes into the frame rail on each side of the vehicle to mount the 3/8"-16 nut plates. The endplate is used as a template for hole location.
Using a reciprocating saw, you must cut a rectangular area through the bumper bracket and frame rail. Mark horizontally below the upper portion of the bumper bracket and continue just beyond the lower bolt hole, then mark straight down until reaching the bottom of the frame rail. This vertical marking should be flush with the frame rail edge behind the bumper bracket.
Two trimming operations are required: (1) Remove three tabs from the lower edge of the fascia support using a utility knife. (2) Remove the fascia support from the back of the fascia, then starting 7-1/2" in from the fascia support's inside edge, cut vertically upward until stopped by molding, then cut horizontally until reaching the inside edge. Perform this on both sides of the vehicle. Reinstall the fascia support to the back of the fascia after trimming.
Yes, the trimming of the fascia support and fascia is permanent. When reinstalling the fascia on the vehicle, the fascia will need to be trimmed to fit the removable tabs through.
For 1/2" Grade 5 bolts, the torque specification is 78 foot-pounds. The manual states to tighten all bolts according to the torque chart on the front page of the installation instructions or page 3 of the Baseplate Towing General Instructions, and Loctite RED must be used on all bolts before tightening.
For 3/8" Grade 5 bolts, the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. Loctite RED must be applied to all bolts before tightening.
For 1/4" Grade 5 bolts, the torque specification is 10 foot-pounds. Loctite RED must be applied before tightening.
