Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select,TOYOTA COROLLA S (Part #FDRWBX3751) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the BX3751 is designed for the 2003 Toyota Corolla S. The baseplate has attachment tabs 22 inches center to center with a height of 13 inches. Note that the vehicle frame is not centered on the vehicle, so the attachment tab receiver tubes on the baseplate are offset to align with the center of the vehicle.
Yes, the BX8869 is available for the 2003 Toyota Corolla S equipped with the BX3751 baseplate. The BX8869 is mounted on the bottom of the driver's side tail light assembly.
Yes, the front fascia must be removed for baseplate installation. No trimming of the fascia is required. The fascia is removed by taking out two Phillips screws with rubber pads and one push pin from the top, two push pins from the bottom of the metal bumper, two metric bolts from just forward of the front tires on the bottom side, and one metric bolt from the front fascia's corner inside each wheel well.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill two 1 1/4" holes on the outside of each frame rail just behind the metal bumper using a 1 1/4" hole saw (both sides). You must also drill two 13/32" holes into the bottom of each frame rail using a 13/32" drill bit (both sides). Additionally, four more 13/32" holes are drilled on the baseplate itself. No trimming of the fascia is required.
Required tools are: 9/16" socket, 10MM socket, 13/32" drill bit, 1 1/4" hole saw, tape measure, Phillips screw driver, large vise grips, and Loctite. A deep well socket or piece of tubing is also needed on the passenger's side to protect the coolant line while drilling.
The BX3751 kit includes: one baseplate weldment (61-5883), eight 3/8-16 nut plates, eight 3/8-16 x 1 1/2 Grade 5 bolts, eight 3/8 lock washers, two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws, two #10-32 x 1/2" slot round head screws, two #10 lock washers, two #10-32 hex nuts, two 4-way connector adapters, two attachment assemblies (right side), two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables, two 3/8" zinc-plated quicklinks, and two receiver cap plugs.
The baseplate should be adjusted so that the distance from the front of the metal bumper to the end of the attachment tab receiver tubes is 2 1/4" on both sides. This alignment accounts for the offset metal bumper on the 2003 Corolla S. The baseplate is initially secured to the bottom side of the frame rails with large clamps before drilling and final bolt installation.
1. Remove Phillips screws and push pins from fascia. 2. Remove metric bolts from fascia. 3. Pull fascia forward and set aside. 4. Drill 1 1/4" holes in frame rails behind the bumper (both sides). 5. Align baseplate to frame rails and secure with large clamps. 6. Adjust baseplate to 2 1/4" spacing from bumper to attachment tabs. 7. Drill 13/32" holes into frame using baseplate as template. 8. Insert nut plates into 1 1/4" holes and install bolts with lock washers and Loctite; tighten to torque specification. 9. Drill remaining four 13/32" holes on baseplate (protect coolant line on passenger's side). 10. Install remaining bolts with lock washers and Loctite; tighten to specification. 11. Reinstall fascia and verify electrical connections. 12. Install tow bar and safety cables per their instructions.
When drilling the remaining four 13/32" holes on the baseplate, the passenger's side requires a deep well socket or piece of tubing placed on the drill bit to protect the coolant line from damage during drilling.
All bolts must be tightened according to the Torque Chart in the General Instruction Sheet. This manual does not provide the specific torque values. Consult the General Instruction Sheet or contact Blue Ox for the correct torque specification. All bolts must have Loctite applied before tightening.
Replacement bolts must be the same grade as the original, which is usually Grade 5. The kit includes 3/8-16 x 1 1/2 Grade 5 bolts. For your safety and preservation of the baseplate, use only genuine factory replacement parts. Repair parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox dealer or distributor.
Yes, Loctite must be applied to all bolts before tightening. The manual specifies using Loctite Red on all bolts and tightening to the recommended specifications.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX3751 kit includes two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables and two 3/8" quicklinks. These cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. Permanent safety cables are in addition to, not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines, as improper installation could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts. The manual provides illustrations of recommended cable arrangements.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications and have Loctite applied.
Dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable. While the location and size of the holes in the baseplate were designed to allow for easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear.
After reinstalling the front fascia, be sure all electrical components are plugged in properly.
Yes, the attachment tabs should be removed when not in use.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Obtain replacement parts from Blue Ox or an authorized dealer.
Yes, it is crucial to register your BX3751 baseplate online at www.blueox.com so that you may be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
