The advantage of a hitch-mounted cargo carrier is that it can be mounted on the rear or front end of the vehicle as long as the vehicle is properly equipped with the right receiver hitch. Mounting a cargo carrier in the front opens up the rear receiver hitch for towing a trailer or adding a second carrier or bike rack if needed. The hitch-mounted design also makes installation quick and easy. CURT basket cargo carriers feature a strong bolt-together design and are made with heavy-duty carbide steel and a tubular construction for increased strength. The CURT 18151 is designed for vehicles with a 2" receiver hitch. Verify your vehicle has a 2" receiver tube. The product has a maximum weight capacity of 500 lbs. Consult your vehicle's owner manual to confirm your hitch type and towing capacity before purchasing.
You will need a 17mm wrench, 19mm wrench, 24mm wrench, and an adjustable wrench. No power tools or drilling is required.
The maximum weight capacity is 500 lbs. when using the 2" receiver tube. Weight must be evenly distributed on the platform.
Installation is rated as Easy difficulty. Actual time will depend on your experience level, vehicle condition, and tool availability. The manual does not specify an exact installation time.

The package includes: 2 platform frame halves, 1 shank (2"), 2 connecting plates, 1 folding shank assembly, 1 clip, 1 pin (5/8"), 1 lock nut (M16), 1 hex bolt (M16 x 80mm), 2 lock nuts (M12), 2 flat washers (M12), 2 hex bolts (M12 x 75mm), 8 lock nuts (M10), 8 flat washers (M10), and 8 carriage bolts (M10 x 20mm). All hardware needed for assembly is included.
No. The CURT 18151 is designed for 2" receiver tubes only. It will not fit a 1.25" receiver hitch. Verify your vehicle has a 2" receiver before purchasing.
The manual does not specify removal of any vehicle components. Installation involves assembling the cargo carrier and inserting it into your 2" receiver hitch. Consult the manual or contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 if you have concerns about clearance with your specific vehicle.
Assembly follows this sequence: (1) Align the two platform halves on either side of the 2" shank and insert the two M12 hex bolts through both platforms and shank. Install M12 flat washers and lock nuts but do not fully tighten. (2) Place the two connecting plates on the front and back of the platforms and insert M10 carriage bolts through the outside, followed by M10 flat washers, and secure with M10 lock nuts on the inside. (3) Connect the folding shank assembly to the 2" shank with an M16 hex bolt, pin, and clip. (4) Tighten all hardware to the recommended torque specifications. The folding shank can then be adjusted to upright or folded position as needed.
No. In Step 1, snug the M12 hex bolts but do not fully tighten them. All hardware is fully tightened to the recommended torque specifications after the connecting plates are installed in Step 2.
To fold the cargo carrier: (1) Remove the pin and clip from the folding shank assembly. (2) Lift the frame body upward until it is in the vertical (folded) position. (3) Reinsert the pin through the shank and the lower hole of the folding shank assembly. (4) Secure the pin with the provided clip. To return to the upright position, reverse these steps.
M10 bolts should be tightened to 16 ft-lbs.
M12 bolts should be tightened to 28 ft-lbs.
M16 bolts should be tightened to 70 ft-lbs.
The maximum weight capacity is 500 lbs. when using the 2" receiver tube. Do not exceed this limit. Weight must be evenly distributed on the platform. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
No. Do not carry flammable items on the carrier. Do not allow exhaust fumes to blow directly on your cargo. Doing so creates a fire hazard.

Always use caution when in reverse to help avoid personal injury. The cargo carrier extends behind your vehicle and may not be fully visible in your mirrors. Be aware of the extended length when backing up.
No. Do not block brake lights or turn signals with the cargo carrier or its load. Ensure lights remain visible and functional for safe operation.
Weight must be evenly distributed on the platform. Do not place all weight on one side or corner. Uneven weight distribution can affect vehicle handling and stability.
No. Do not carry loads taller, wider, or deeper than the cargo carrier itself. Cargo must fit within the platform dimensions.
