When you purchase a 5th wheel trailer hitch, you expect it to be capable of towing your RV, flatbed or whatever other 5th wheel trailer you own. While a 5th wheel hitch does offer an impressive amount of towing strength, it cannot get far without the proper installation equipment. Engineered for specific makes and models, CURT custom 5th wheel brackets provide the ideal solution for complementing the power of your 5th wheel trailer hitch. A custom 5th wheel bracket features a shape that contours to the frame of your truck and uses pre-drilled holes in the frame wherever possible to make installation quick and easy. Depending on your model of pickup truck, they also reduce or eliminate the need for drilling. These particular custom 5th wheel brackets offer a custom fit for certain model years of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500 HD and 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 HD and 3500 HD (see application info to verify fitment). Finished in a durable liquid A-coat, CURT custom 5th wheel brackets are made to last. They include all necessary mounting hardware and are designed to be used in conjunction with CURT industry-standard 5th wheel base rails #16104 or #16204 (base rails sold separately).

Yes, the CURT Custom 5th Wheel Brackets, Select Silverado, Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, HD Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Bracket (Part #BKDK16418) is designed to fit the 1999-2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The CURT Custom 5th Wheel Brackets, Select Silverado, Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, HD Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Bracket (Part #BKDK16418) Drilling is required for installation. Typical installation time is . Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 16418 mounting rails are designed for both short and long box Chevrolet and GMC trucks. However, the installation procedure differs slightly between the two: on long box models, the front hole must not be drilled during the initial frame bracket fastening (step 6), but instead is drilled later using the frame bracket as a guide (step 10). Short box models drill all holes during the initial fastening.
No. The manual states: 'System may not work with 2003 and earlier competitor products.' If you plan to use an older hitch, contact Curt Manufacturing to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
No, not without modification. The manual warns: 'Do not install mounting rails over plastic bed liners. Plastic liners must be trimmed for metal-to-metal contact.' Spray-in liners are acceptable and do not require trimming.
Electrical box relocation is required on 2500 & 3500 models from 2007 and up with new body styles. The front electrical box on the inside of the driver side frame must be removed and attached to the supplied bracket (CM-EBB). The uppermost fastener on the rear electrical box is removed and returned to the owner. For other models, this step does not apply.
No. The Curt 16418 is a mounting rail system only. The fifth wheel hitch, roller, or gooseneck hitch is sold separately. The rails are designed to accept these hitch products, which are inserted into the mounted rails during installation.
Before installation, lower and remove the spare tire, and remove the exhaust heat shield. These steps are required to provide access and clearance for the mounting rails.
The manual lists an approximate installation time of 90 minutes.
Yes, drilling is required. The installation involves drilling pilot holes with a 1/8" drill bit, then enlarging them to 9/16" using a step drill. On short box models, all holes are drilled during the initial frame bracket fastening. On long box models, the front 1/2" hole is drilled later using the frame bracket as a guide.
First, mark and drill pilot holes with a 1/8" drill bit. Then enlarge these holes to 9/16" using a step drill. On long box models, a separate 1/2" hole is drilled through the frame for the front fasteners.
The kit includes: 2× 3/4"-10 UNC 1-1/2" hex head cap screws (10-10534), 2× 3/4"-10 UNC 2" hex head cap screws (10-10280), 10× 1/2"-13 UNC 2" carriage bolts (10-10288), 2× 1/2"-13 UNC 1-1/2" carriage bolts (10-10287), 4× 3/4"-10 UNC serrated flange nuts (20-00106), 12× 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (20-00062), 2× 3/4" flat washers (30-00216), 2× 3/4" flat washers (30-00152), 10× 0.313" × 1.00" × 2.00" U-shape spacers (CM-SP136), 10× 0.250" × 1.50" × 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP33), 2× 0.250" × 1.00" × 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP12), 2× 3/4" fishwire (3_4 FISHWIRE), and 2× 1/2" fishwire (1_2 FISHWIRE).
Required tools include a tape measure, center punch, 1/8" drill bit, step drill (to enlarge holes to 9/16"), and a wrench or socket set for fastening. A bolt leader tool is required to install the front hardware on restricted-access holes. The manual does not specify whether the bolt leader is supplied or must be sourced separately.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. All 3/4" fasteners must be torqued to 380 lb-ft. Torque all nuts starting with the carriage bolts that fasten the rails to the frame bracket.
Use a tape measure to center the front mounting rail on the truck box floor and position it at the proper distance from the rear edge of the truck box as shown on the rail location diagram. For short box models, the hitch center line is 47.500 inches from the rear edge of the truck box. For long box models, it is 52.375 inches. All measurements are taken from the rear edge of the truck box, not the tailgate. The second rail is positioned by inserting its tabs into the first mounted rail and pushing it tight toward the first rail, ensuring it is centered on the truck box floor.
For short box models, the hitch center line is 47.500 inches from the rear edge of the truck box. For long box models, the hitch center line is 52.375 inches from the rear edge of the truck box. All measurements are taken from the rear edge of the truck box, not the tailgate.
Fasten the frame bracket to the frame using appropriate hardware and tighten hand tight initially (step 6). When fastening the mounting rail to the frame brackets with carriage bolts, also tighten hand tight (step 7). Final torquing of all fasteners occurs at the end of installation: torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft and all 3/4" fasteners to 380 lb-ft (step 11).
Spacers are used between the frame bracket or mounting rails and the truck box to ensure metal-to-metal contact. The kit includes two types: 0.313" × 1.00" × 2.00" U-shape spacers (10 pieces) and 0.250" × 1.50" × 2.00" square hole spacers (10 pieces), plus 2 additional 0.250" × 1.00" × 2.00" square hole spacers.
Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. This warning appears at the top of every page of the manual and is critical to safe operation.
Yes. Before installing the hitch, measure to ensure there will be enough clearance between the truck and trailer to allow for turns. This prevents interference during towing.
The manual explicitly states: 'Use only supplied fasteners for installation.' Substituting fasteners could compromise the structural integrity and safety of the mounting system, and would void the warranty.
After completing all installation steps and torquing fasteners to specification, reinstall the spare tire. Verify that all fasteners are torqued to the correct specifications: 110 lb-ft for 1/2" fasteners and 380 lb-ft for 3/4" fasteners.
Yes, it fits both. Installation differs slightly: on long box models, the front hole is drilled later using the frame bracket as a guide, while short box models drill all holes during initial fastening.
You need a tape measure, center punch, 1/8" and step drill bits, wrench or socket set, and a bolt leader tool for restricted-access holes. The bolt leader may need to be sourced separately.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft and all 3/4" fasteners to 380 lb-ft.
Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Also measure clearance before installation to ensure the truck and trailer can turn.
