The fishwire technique uses a coiled 7/16" fishwire tool to guide a bolt and spacer through the vehicle frame rail without losing them inside the frame. Thread the fishwire onto the 7/16" hex bolt, attach the flat washer to the fishwire, insert the coiled end through the frame's access hole (large hole), feed it through the mounting hole, then pull the fishwire to draw the bolt and spacer through the frame. Kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt. This prevents bolt or spacer loss during installation.
Install the base plates to the proper sides using the two existing factory tow hook bolt holes. Use a socket and socket extension to secure them. Align the base plate flange with the rubber grommet extruding from the vehicle frame to ensure correct orientation and installation on the proper side.
Secure each mounting bracket to its base plate using two supplied 1/2" x 1-1/2" hex bolts (#5) with lock washers (#6) and flat washers (#7), fastened with nylock nuts (#8) on the inside of the base plate tube. Do not fully tighten the hardware at this stage. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle.
Thread the 7/16" fishwire onto the 7/16" hex bolt (#9) and attach the 7/16" flat washer (#11) onto the fishwire on the bolt. Insert the fishwire into the access hole (large hole) holding the bolt and washer in your hand. Feed the fishwire into the mounting hole, grab the fishwire on the mounting hole side, and begin pulling the bolt through the access hole and out the mounting hole. Loosening the top bolt from the base plate may make this easier.
Hold the skid plate close to its original position and mark with tape or paint marker where trimming is needed. Use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to trim the skid plate for proper fit. Take care when cutting metal as injury may occur if done improperly.

In the event of a disconnect, the safety cables are designed to help prevent complete vehicle separation.
