The CURT 70110 is a tow bar base plate designed for dinghy towing. It includes a base plate, mounting tabs, safety cables, quick links, socket plugs, and all fasteners needed for installation. The installed attachment tabs measure 17" height by 24" width. When not in use, socket plugs insert into the ends of the base plate, and the mounting tabs are removed.
Yes. The installation requires removal of the front underbody panel and metal bumper. The bumper must be disconnected from fog light wiring harnesses before complete removal, then reinstalled after the tow bar base plate is secured. The factory bumper is reinstalled in Step 9.
The manual includes a specific cutting procedure for ARB Stubby Bumpers (Step 7). Both sides of the bumper must be cut on the underside to provide clearance for the side plates, following the template shown. This step applies only to ARB Stubby Bumpers; other bumper types do not require this modification.
Required tools are: torque wrench, drill, drill bit 17/32", reciprocating saw, tape measure, large vise grip, fishwire 1/2" (four included), and sockets in 3/4", 5/16", 15mm, and 18mm. Safety glasses should be worn at all times during installation.
The kit includes: 4 carriage bolts 1/2"-13 x 2" (grade 8), 4 flange nuts 1/2"-13 (grade 8), 2 carriage bolts 5/8"-11 x 2" (grade 8), 2 flange nuts 5/8"-11 (grade 8), 4 square hole spacers 1/4" x 1" x 2-1/2", 2 square hole spacers 3/8" x 1-1/4" x 2-1/2", 2 spacer plates 1" x 5/8", 2 safety cables rated 7,500 lbs., 2 quick links 1/2", and 2 socket plugs.

Step 1 is to remove the front underbody panel. Use a 15mm socket to remove seven bolts from the bottom of the underbody panel—two on either side and three near the front. Remove the panel and set it aside for later trimming and reinstallation.
Use an 18mm socket to remove two bolts on the outside of the vehicle's frame (two on each side, four total), then remove four bolts on the inside of the vehicle's frame (two on either side). Carefully remove the bumper and disconnect the fog light wiring harnesses before complete removal. Set the bumper aside for reinstallation after the tow bar base plate is installed.
Position the tow bar base plate (#1) on the vehicle frame. Fishwire a 5/8"-11 x 2" carriage bolt (#9) and 3/8" square hole spacer (#8) into the frame rails on each side. Level the base plate and secure with a 5/8" flange nut (#10), torquing to 212 lb-ft. Fishwire is used to route the bolts through the frame rails into position before fastening.
Using a 17/32" drill bit, drill the remaining mounting holes in the vehicle frame. Use the side plates as a template to locate the holes. This drilling is required to accommodate the 1/2"-13 x 2" carriage bolts that secure the side plates to the frame.
Trim the underbody panel by cutting off a tapered portion measuring 2-1/2" wide by 7-3/4" high on both sides of the vehicle. This provides clearance for the side plates. The trimming is permanent and required for proper fitment.
The 5/8"-11 x 2" carriage bolts and flange nuts securing the base plate to the frame rails must be torqued to 212 lb-ft. These fasteners are installed in Step 4.
The 1/2"-13 x 2" carriage bolts and flange nuts securing the side plates to the frame must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. These fasteners are installed in Step 5 and the torque is applied after both sides of the vehicle are complete.
After drilling the mounting holes using a 17/32" bit and using the side plates as a template, install a spacer plate (#2) between the vehicle frame and side plate. Fishwire the 1/2"-13 x 2" carriage bolts (#6) and 1/4" square hole spacers (#5) through the end of the frame into position and fasten with 1/2" flange nuts (#7). Repeat on the other side and torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
Install the permanent safety cables (#4) and quick links (#11) by looping them around the vehicle frame and linking them to the tow bar base plate (#1). There must be one cable on each side of the vehicle. Ensure the cables do not pinch or interfere with any hoses, wiring or other components. Each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle (these are rated 7,500 lbs.). Safety cables are not a replacement for safety chains connecting the tow vehicle to the towed vehicle.
After the base plate and side plates are secured and torqued, reinstall the factory bumper (Step 9). When ready to tow, install the tow bar mounting tabs (#3) into the base plate. When not towing, insert the socket plugs (#12) into the ends of the tow bar base plates to protect the attachment points.
The two permanent safety cables included with the CURT 70110 are each rated for 7,500 lbs. Each cable must meet or exceed the gross weight of the towed vehicle. Both cables must be installed—one on each side of the vehicle.
The installed attachment tabs measure 17" in height and 24" in width. These dimensions are important for checking clearance with the towed vehicle before towing.
Periodically check the condition of all towing equipment. Ensure all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Do not tow with worn or damaged parts. Review your towing vehicle and trailer owner's manuals for specific recommendations, capacities and requirements.
