There are several different types of connectors used to supply power from a tow vehicle's electrical system to a trailer's wiring system. Some trailers only need the bare essentials -- running lights, brake lights and turn signals -- while others require a connection for reverse lights, electric brakes and auxiliary power. With connectors ranging from simple to complex, it may be the case that the connection between your vehicle and your trailer is not a perfect match. For example, your truck may be equipped with a 6-way round socket, but your trailer may have a 4-way flat plug. For this very common problem, CURT offers a quick and simple solution in the form of an electrical adapter. An adapter is an electrical device that allows a connection to be made between a mismatched trailer plug and vehicle socket. It easily plugs in your vehicle's electrical socket and usually requires no additional wiring. The 4-way flat electrical adapter converts a vehicle's factory 4-way flat trailer connector to a 6-way round, 7-way RV blade, or dual 4-way flat connector. This allows you to connect trailers with different connector types to your tow vehicle. The adapter harness carries tail lights, stop lights, turn signals, auxiliary/back-up lights, and electric brake functions.
Yes. Your vehicle must be equipped with a 4-way flat trailer connector. If your vehicle does not have one, you will need to install a custom wiring harness or other 4-way flat trailer connector before installing this adapter.
Single output adapters convert to either 6-way round or 7-way RV blade. Dual output adapters provide two 4-way flat connectors plus either a 6-way round or 7-way RV blade connector. Part numbers 57184 and 57183 are single output without a mounting bracket. Part numbers 57185, 57626, 57676, 57604, 57624, 57672, 57674, and 57102 include a mounting bracket.

You will need: 1/8" drill bit, drill, Phillips screwdriver, wire stripper, cutting tool, terminal crimpers, and a test light. The manual also lists three #10 - 1/2" self-tapping screws as required hardware (not included with the product).

Mount the combination harness on the tow vehicle's bumper or other suitable surface. The mounting location must be within reach of the trailer's wiring harness and positioned near the center of the vehicle. If your adapter includes a mounting bracket, use it as a template to mark the drilling locations.
Drill 1/8" holes into the mounting surface using the bracket as a template. You will also need to drill a separate 1/8" hole for the grounding screw at a suitable grounding point within reach of the combination harness.
Yes. You must drill 1/8" holes for the mounting bracket and a separate 1/8" hole for the ground connection. Before drilling, check for brake lines, fuel lines, wiring and other components that could be damaged.
Before drilling, be sure of what is behind the surface you are drilling into. Stay clear of brake lines, fuel lines, wiring or any other components that may harm the vehicle's operation. No. Never attach the mounting bracket directly to the hitch by cutting, welding or drilling into the hitch. The bracket must be attached to the vehicle's bumper or other suitable surface.
Use 12 gauge (minimum) wire with butt-connectors to connect the remaining wires to the appropriate functions. The manual specifies this minimum gauge for all wire connections.

Yes, grounding is required. The white wire with ring terminal must be attached to a 1/8" hole drilled at a clean grounding point using a #10 - 1/2" self-tapping screw. The vehicle's 4-way flat connector white wire cannot support the ground functions of the adapter.
Yes. The black wire (positive power) must be connected with an appropriate inline fuse. The manual does not specify the fuse amperage; consult the manufacturer or your vehicle's electrical specifications.
Use a wire stripper to strip the wire insulation, then use terminal crimpers to attach butt-connectors to the ends of the wires. Connect the wires to the appropriate functions as listed in the manual. Secure any loose wires using cable ties or equivalent product.
For the 6- or 7-way connector, feed the entire harness through the large mounting hole in the bracket and position the connector against the face of the mounting bracket.
