Whether you are an avid mountain biker or a casual rider, you will want CURT along for the ride. CURT bike racks offer both versatility and quality and are available in several different styles to fit your needs. CURT standard hitch-mounted bike racks are anything but average. They feature an adjustable shank to fit either a 1-1/4" or 2" receiver and allow use on most trailer hitch classes. Our standard bike racks also come with several useful features, including an anti-wobble shank to reduce noise and keep bikes more secure, and a compact design for easy storage. They feature adjustable arms to accommodate various bike heights and styles, and the arms can be folded down, when not in use, to remain out of the way. The tilt-down design built into our standard bike racks allows you easier access to the rear of your vehicle whenever necessary. This particular CURT standard bike rack is able to hold up to two bikes and features a maximum load limit of 90 lbs. It can also accept the CURT extender arms #18020 to increase the bike capacity up to four bikes. To protect it against the elements and the trail ahead, this bike rack comes with a durable black powder coat finish.

The CURT 18021 is designed for frame-mounted 2" class 3 or higher trailer hitch receivers. However, clamp-on bumper receivers and traditional 4" square bumpers should not be used to mount this bike rack. Confirm your hitch is frame-mounted and class 3 or higher before purchasing. Do not exceed your receiver's weight limits.
The CURT 18021 comes with a 1-1/4" shank. If your vehicle has a 2" receiver tube opening, you must use the included U-type plastic adapter (#4) to adapt the 1-1/4" shank to fit. The adapter is secured with two socket head cap screw adapters (#5) by aligning the holes.
The CURT 18021 supports 1 bike at 45 lbs., 2 bikes at 90 lbs., and 4 bikes at 180 lbs. maximum capacity. The 4-bike capacity requires the extension arms (#18020, sold separately) and weight must be evenly distributed. Never exceed the product's weight capacity or your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
You will need a 5mm Allen wrench, 8mm Allen wrench, and 19mm wrench. All three tools are included in the product kit, so no additional tools are required for installation.
Yes. Any bike rack with a 1-1/4" shank requires the use of a support strap (CURT #18050). Failure to use a support strap will void the warranty of both the trailer hitch and bike rack. The strap must be looped to the center section where the arms connect to the bike rack post and hooked to the back of the tow vehicle, then cinched until there is no bounce in the rack.
Assembly has three steps: (1) Raise the arms to the outright position and secure with the attached lynch pin. (2) Connect the arm post (#1) and connecting post (#2) using bolt kit (#8). (3) Using the hex head bolt kit (#7), attach the bottom of the connecting post (#2) to the shank (#3) in the bottom hole. Insert the bolt connected to the post through the top hole of the shank and secure with the provided clip.
Insert the bike rack shank into the vehicle receiver tube and secure with a 1/2" hex head bolt, flat washer, star washer and clip (#9). If adapting a 1-1/4" shank to a 2" receiver tube, first assemble the U-type adapter (#4) onto the shank (#3) by aligning the holes and securing with the two socket head cap screw adapters (#5).
Install the bikes on the rack and secure with the provided rubber bike arm straps (#6). Be sure to secure both the cross post and seat post to the rack. When towing more than one bike, alternate the directions the bikes are facing: first bike faces right, second bike faces left.
Loop the support strap (#11) to the center section of the bike rack where the arms connect to the bike rack post. Hook the strap buckle (#10) to the back of the tow vehicle. Cinch the strap until there is no bounce in the rack, then secure the extra strap length.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity or the product's weight capacity (45 lbs. for 1 bike, 90 lbs. for 2 bikes, 180 lbs. for 4 bikes with extension arms). Do not modify the product or use it for off-road use, tandems or recumbents. A support strap is required for 1-1/4" shanks or the warranty is voided. You are responsible for compliance with state and federal laws regarding obstruction of vehicle lighting and license plate. Check straps for wear and replace if worn.
Periodic inspection of your product should be performed to ensure all hardware and components remain secure. Check straps for wear, and replace if worn.
Yes. The CURT 18021 has two folding features: (1) At the base, remove the clip from the upper bolt holding the bike rack in the vertical position, remove the bolt and tilt the rack away from the vehicle to access the rear cargo area. (2) At the top, pull the lynch pin that secures the arms in the outward position, fold the bike rack arms down to the transport position, and replace the lynch pin.
The CURT 18021 fits frame-mounted 2" class 3 or higher trailer hitch receivers. Do not use with clamp-on bumper receivers or traditional 4" square bumpers.
The kit includes a 5mm Allen wrench, 8mm Allen wrench, and 19mm wrench. No additional tools are required for installation.
Yes. A support strap (CURT #18050) is required and must be purchased separately. Failure to use it will void the warranty of both the trailer hitch and bike rack.
The CURT 18021 carries 1 bike (45 lbs.), 2 bikes (90 lbs.), or 4 bikes (180 lbs. with extension arms #18020, sold separately).
No drilling is required. The CURT 18021 uses a shank that inserts into your existing receiver hitch and is secured with bolts and clips.
The CURT 18021 is not intended for off-road use, tandems or recumbents. It is designed for standard frame-mounted bikes.
