Outfitting your pickup to tow a heavy-duty flatbed or livestock trailer is easy with the CURT OEM puck system gooseneck ball. Like our OEM puck system safety chain anchors, this gooseneck ball utilizes the puck system built into certain pickup trucks today with the towing prep package. It features a patented installation system, operating with a simple quarter-turn latch lock for ease of use and a secure mount. Retention balls, built into the shank, keep the gooseneck ball fixed into the receiver hole and keep your trailer locked on tight. It provides a ball diameter of 2-5/16" and has a gross trailer weight capacity of 30,000 lbs. It also comes with a durable chrome finish and meets U.S. V-19 specifications for safety. This particular OEM puck system gooseneck ball is compatible with select Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups with the truck bed puck system. It can also be used in our OEM-style Ram hitches. It is not designed to fit any other gooseneck ball holes. The ball can be purchased as a standalone item or as part of a complete kit (#60618) that also includes the OEM puck system safety chain anchors, a rubber hole cover and a durable storage case.

The Curt 60601 is an original equipment gooseneck ball designed for towing trailers. It installs into a receiver tube mounted in a truck bed and provides the coupling point for a gooseneck trailer. The ball features a rotating handle that locks into position when inserted into the receiver tube.
The 60601 is designed to install into a receiver tube in a truck bed. Compatibility depends on whether your truck has a compatible receiver tube already installed. The manual does not specify which truck models or years are compatible. Contact Curt Manufacturing at 1.877.287.8634 or CURTMFG.COM to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
1. Lift the handle from its seat and rotate it 90 degrees. 2. Insert the gooseneck ball into the receiver tube in the truck bed. 3. Rotate the handle to the locked position. 4. Flip the handle down into its seat. If the handle does not freely rotate into the locked position, rotate the ball while applying light pressure to the side of the handle until it locks. The handle must match the ball profile while in the locked position prior to coupling.
Remove the gooseneck ball from the receiver tube and store it in its case in a dry, clean area. When the ball is removed, place the rubber cover (part number 66155) into the gooseneck receiver to keep dirt and contaminants out.
The manual states you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The 60601 itself does not have a stated capacity limit in this manual. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or contact Curt Manufacturing at 1.877.287.8634 to determine the appropriate towing capacity for your specific truck and trailer combination.
No. The manual explicitly states: do not tow more than one trailer at a time, as this may cause loss of control.
Before towing the first time, you must: 1. Verify adequate turning clearance between the truck cab/box corners and trailer(s). 2. Check truck box clearance—there must be a minimum of 6 inches between the bottom of the trailer overhang and the top of the box sides. 3. Verify all hardware is torqued to the proper specification. 4. Verify the trailer safety chain length has only enough slack to allow full turning without interference. 5. Verify that trailer attachments to the safety chain anchors are secure and cannot be shaken free during towing.
Every time before towing, you must: 1. Ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Do not tow with worn or damaged parts. 2. Attach the trailer securely to safety chain anchors. 3. Ensure the trailer weight does not exceed any part of the towing system, with load heavier towards the front of the trailer while not exceeding hitch tongue weight. Never load the trailer heavier behind the trailer axle(s). 4. Ensure the trailer load is secured to prevent shifting and centered left to right. 5. Check tires are inflated to proper specification per vehicle and trailer recommendations. 6. Verify trailer lights, electric brakes and breakaway switches are working properly.
Keep the 60601, receiver and trailer coupler lubricated regularly using silicone spray or equivalent to prevent wear and rust. Keep the 60601, receiver and trailer coupler free of dirt and other foreign debris. Periodically check the gooseneck hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Failure to maintain the towing system could result in poor performance and/or catastrophic failure.
There must be a minimum clearance of 6 inches between the bottom of the trailer overhang and the top of the truck box sides. This should be verified before towing for the first time and checked regularly to ensure the trailer does not contact the truck bed during turning or operation.
The trailer load must be heavier towards the front of the trailer while not exceeding the hitch tongue weight. Never load the trailer heavier behind the trailer axle(s). The load must be secured to prevent shifting and centered from left to right. The total trailer weight must not exceed any part of the towing system.
The trailer safety chain should have only enough slack to allow full turning without interference. Too much slack in the chain may prevent maintaining control in the event of separation. Verify the safety chain length before towing for the first time.
Vehicle performance including braking, handling, acceleration and turning radius can be drastically affected by a trailer. You must allow additional time and space for stopping, changing lanes, passing and turning. Avoid or drive slowly over rough terrain, as severe bumps can damage the towing system.
Yes. The 60601 gooseneck ball installs into a receiver tube mounted in the truck bed. Your truck must have a compatible receiver tube already installed.
There must be a minimum of 6 inches clearance between the bottom of the trailer overhang and the top of the truck box sides.
No. Do not tow more than one trailer at a time, as this may cause loss of control.
Use silicone spray or equivalent to lubricate the 60601, receiver and trailer coupler regularly to prevent wear and rust.
Verify turning clearance, check 6-inch minimum box clearance, verify all hardware is torqued to specification, check safety chain length and tension, and ensure trailer attachments to safety chain anchors are secure.
