The CURT S20 slider makes it easy to tow a 5th wheel trailer with your short-bed truck. This slider features a quiet design, an auto-latching mechanism, an ergonomic handle and industry-standard mounting points. The S20 sliding 5th wheel hitch is built with a solid design to eliminate chucking in the towing position and promote smooth rolling from forward to rearward positions, with no binding. With the S20 installed, you can safely move the coupling point 12 inches toward the rear, allowing your short-bed truck to make turns without obstruction. The S20 slider is comfortable and easy to operate, featuring a lift-style lever that is easily accessible over the side of the truck wall. The lever moves in a more user-friendly, ergonomic motion compared to traditional, pull-out-style levers. Best of all, the S20 automatically latches into place in both directions, meaning you only have to get out of the truck once to complete the operation. Simply set the lever, pull the truck forward and you're ready to maneuver. The auto-latches will lock the slider into the rearward coupling position. The S20 sliding 5th wheel is rated for trailers up to 20,000 pounds, and it is fully tested to SAE J2638 specifications. It comes with standard mounting points to easily mount onto all industry-standard base rails.

The CURT 16564 is a 5th wheel slider assembly that allows your 5th wheel hitch to move 12 inches forward and backward on your truck bed. It enables two operating positions: a maneuver position (12 inches forward) for aligning the trailer during coupling, and a tow position (12 inches rearward) for towing. The slider has a locking mechanism that automatically engages when you reach each position.
The slider is rated for 5th wheel trailers with a gross trailer weight (GTW) of up to 20,000 lbs. The vertical load capacity is 5,000 lbs. Never use this slider on trailers exceeding 20,000 lbs, as doing so may result in separation, damage to the hitch, towing vehicle, trailer, or serious injury or death.
The slider is designed to work with 5th wheel head units, but you must refer to the separate installation manual included with your specific 5th wheel head unit for proper height calculation and mounting torque specifications. The slider provides the four mounting holes; the head unit manual will specify the correct bolts, nylock nuts, and torque values for your particular model.
No. The 5th wheel base rails are sold separately and are required for installation. The slider assembly mounts into the base rail slots using the provided rail pins and clips. You must ensure the base rails are properly installed and parallel with each other before installing the slider.
No. Although the slider repositions your 5th wheel hitch 12 inches rearward, this will not guarantee complete truck cab and trailer clearance when towing. You must verify clearance for your specific truck and trailer combination before towing.
A torque wrench and socket set are required. The installation is rated as easy difficulty level, though actual time and effort may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
The slider assembly includes: 1 slider assembly, 4 rail pins, 4 rail clips, and 4 rubber spacers. The bolts and nylock nuts for mounting the 5th wheel head are provided with the head unit, not with the slider.
Before installing the slider, check that the base rails in your truck are properly installed and parallel with each other. Verify that the diagonal dimensions of the base rails are the same. The slider must be installed on level, parallel rails to operate correctly.
1. Check that base rails are properly installed and parallel (Step 1). 2. Place the slider into the base rail slots. 3. Secure the slider with the four provided rail pins (#2) and four rail clips (#3), ensuring all pins are positioned correctly and all clips are secured before towing (Step 2). 4. Pull the slider handle out until it locks open and verify the slider moves smoothly fore and aft on the rails (Step 3).
Insert the bolts provided with your 5th wheel head through the four mounting holes on the slider and secure them with nylock nuts. Torque all hardware to the specification indicated in your 5th wheel head unit's installation manual. Refer to that manual for proper height calculation. Do not use torque values from this slider manual; use only the values specified in your head unit manual.
Never position yourself or others under the trailer's kingpin area (danger zone) during coupling and uncoupling. Block all trailer tires in front and behind with appropriate wheel chocks—do not substitute with stones, wood blocks, or other objects. Front trailer lifting jacks must be supporting the trailer and resting on a firm, level surface. The towing vehicle must be stationary with automatic transmission in park (manual in neutral), emergency brake applied, and engine off.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Trailer and contents combined must not exceed your tow vehicle, hitch, and trailer tow ratings. The slider itself is rated for trailers up to 20,000 lbs GTW with a 5,000 lbs vertical load, but your specific truck may have a lower rating. Exceeding rated capacity may result in separation, damage, or serious injury or death.
On a level surface, align the 5th wheel trailer and tow vehicle in a straight line. Pull the slider handle out until it locks open to place the lock bar in the maneuver position. Set the trailer brakes and slowly drive the tow vehicle forward until the slider stops. The locking bars will automatically engage in the rear locking groove. Refer to the 5th wheel head manual for additional operating instructions.
On a level surface, align the 5th wheel trailer and tow vehicle in a straight line. Pull the slider handle out and rotate it clockwise to place the lock bar in the ready-to-lock position. Set the trailer brakes and slowly back up the tow vehicle until the slider stops. The locking bar will automatically return to the locked position. Set the trailer brakes and move the tow vehicle forward slightly to ensure the lock bar is fully engaged. You are then ready to tow.
Periodically apply a light coating of grease to the surface of the half-round rails and penetrating oil to the locking bar (using the access holes on the top side of the cross tube) and the four hex bolts and rollers. Prior to towing, ensure all components and hardware are structurally sound and secure. Periodically check the torque to ensure no fasteners have become loose. Periodic inspection of all hardware and components should be performed to ensure they remain secure.
Return the carriage back to the previous position and reset the handle. Check that the locking bar is free-moving and clear of any debris. Attempt to maneuver the carriage to the opposing lock position, ensuring the handle returns to the locked position. If the problem persists, the locking bar may be obstructed or the mechanism may require service.
Ensure the carriage has travelled to the opposing lock position and manually reset the handle to the lock position. Visually inspect the spring located under the cross tube. Check that the locking bar is free-moving and clear of any debris. If the handle still does not reset, the spring or locking mechanism may require service.
The slider requires 5th wheel base rails (sold separately) that must be properly installed and parallel. Verify your truck has compatible base rails before purchasing. The slider repositions your hitch 12 inches rearward but does not guarantee complete cab/trailer clearance.
You must purchase 5th wheel base rails (sold separately) and a 5th wheel head unit (sold separately). The head unit includes its own bolts and nylock nuts. You will need a torque wrench and socket set for installation.
The installation is rated as easy difficulty level and does not require professional installation, though time and effort may vary depending on installer expertise and tool availability. You must have a torque wrench and socket set, and you must follow all safety precautions, especially regarding danger zone work.
The slider is rated for trailers up to 20,000 lbs gross trailer weight with a 5,000 lbs vertical load. Never use on trailers exceeding 20,000 lbs. You must also verify your truck and hitch are rated for your specific trailer weight.
Periodically apply grease to the half-round rails and penetrating oil to the locking bar, hex bolts, and rollers. Before each towing trip, ensure all components are structurally sound and secure, and periodically check fastener torque. Inspect all hardware regularly to ensure it remains secure.
